Cincinnati Meet 'n' Greet

mid michigan diesel weekend?

Hey guys/gals,

I will be heading off to Indianapolis in late April for an event, and I have never been out that way before. I was wondering if you guys could give me any pointers on traveling to that area(what roads to take/avoid),and maybe some things to check out while we are there. I will be pretty busy with the drag racing, and autocrossing I will be doing with the Roatry Revolution, but I will have some spare time. Also my wife, and a friends wife will be with us,and they will be heading out doing different things while we are having fun with my car. I have checked into AAA for stuff, but figured I would ask people that live around there. The AAA map I got has us driving through the middle of PA on rt80,then to rt 76 through to rt71 south to rt 270 around Columbus OH then onto rt 70 into Indiana. Does that sound like a good path to take? Thanks in advance.

hi there i dont know where you are coming frome for shure but i think that i would take 80w all the way across till you get to 80-90 toll rd take that till you get to 75s till you get to 70 take that west till you get to indy. i am a mechanic and i travel alot and that is the fastest way that i have found. dont know if it is the best way but going through the way that they had you going takes alittle longer

hope this helps josh

80 to 75 to 70 is a better route like JCulp stated.

Let us know the dates. We might get some of the local boys rounded up. :D

If you have more time there are things to see in Auburn, Indiana like the Auburn/Cord/Duesenburg museum, and the events that happen at the Kruse Auction park, they now have a cool car museum and a WWII museum, there is a charity auction there on April 23rd and a Corvette show and auction on the 29-30th. You would have to cruise all the way across Ohio on 76 to 80/90 (Ohio turnpike) then south on I-69, which leads straight to Indy from there. Just something to think about.

I will be coming from the Cape Cod area in MA. The dates of the event are April 22nd through the 24th. There is a drag racing portion of the Revolution that is open to Non-rotary cars as well. I don't plan on running in the drag for two reasons,One being I think the challenge event is on the friday night, and I doubt I will be in any shape to do anything after the long drive from MA,and two being that my car is bone stock, and probably not that fast compared to the other cars. We plan on leaving South eastern MA on Thursday night, and driving for about 5-6 hrs(maybe to the Scranton Wilkes-Barre area),and staying the night, and then finishing the trip on friday. I went by AAA tonight, and they will be sending me a trip-tik next week. Maybe I can meet up with some of you guys out there. Here is a link to the event I am going to.

I know most of you guys could care less about imports, but this should be a fun time, and if nothing else it will be very noisy. Thanks for the input. Oh yeah I will be staying in Plainfield. Is that a nice area?

Look at a US map. The shortest and quickest route will be the straightest line. For my trips from MA out southwest, I found 90 - 84 - 81 - 76 - 70 to be the straightest and quickest route. I would typically take 270 around Columbus to avoid downtown traffic; these days, the traffic's about the same on either route (outside of rush hour). Time your trip to avoid the large metro areas during the morning and evening commute times.

Man I'm glad you guys don't dispatch me directions:D. Look at the map, 80, 76, 71, 270, 70 to Indy is the ONLY way to go. Not sure where you're at up there, but anytime I would run east, that is the cheapest, no tolls, and just about the quickest, its a little longer than the PA Pike but not as expensive. 80 to 75 almost takes you north, then back south. Time you got to 80/75, you could have been half way between Columbus and 70/75 interchange. Or time you ran south on 75 and got to 70, the other way you would've been west of Richmond Indiana lol. And as Partsman said, Ohio is not a state, its a whole nother Country, some say communistic. They have their own set of rules, you're rules don't apply in the browneye. 5 mph over is about tops the state troopers will let you get away with. Although the state patrol did just have a massive layoff. Now they only have ONE officer for every mile marker in the state:p.

Watch your speed coming across ohio they dont like speeders at all!!!!!

Good choice in car's ... ... Mazda Tech here

Thanks for the heads up on the state troopers in OH. I have heard that before, and will probably only set the cruise to about 5-7 over the limit while in OH.

Thanks for the compliment on my car choice. I think Mazda is the best kept secret in the automotive world,ad I would like it to stay that way. I actually sometimes wish I was a Mazda Tech because I love working on them so much, but then I think of working on them for a living may sour them to me as a hobby. Plus I would have to go through all the training to be an auto tech, and after all my training to be an electrician,I don't think I am up to it.

That was a houg layoff. I am used to comming to the line and asking for a bear report on the cb and getting soemthing like this: 2 at the line, the 1, the 2, the 3 two at the 5 the 6 the 7... ... ... ... ... ... . They see people in indiana running 80 all day long and it gives them a warm feeling inside to ticket the crap out of them when they cross the line.

they pay for all my training and mazda owners take care of there stuff and they take it to the dealership for work WOoooHoooo

If you need any technical data or just a hand on something let me know or a hook up on some parts .

Hey Partsman, are you a certified rotary tech?If not will you be getting any training on the rotary in the future?

You are right about Mazda owners taking care of their cars too, although I will not bring my car to the dealer after the warranty is up,I like to wrench them myself, unless it is something I can't handle. I am guessing the new car will be a bit tougher to do that with compared to my old 74 REPU,and the RX-7(which I think will be getting retired soon). Do you own any mazda's yourself? If so which model?

Im a certified tech waiting to get some rotary training tho, I love the Rotary engine 238 hp from a engine that's smaller than a trash can... .

Keep your eyes open the speed dept of mazda has been kicking around a very sweet idea and it might go into production

I dont own any mazda's right now im looking for a second gen RX-7

Just to chime in about Ohio, I have seen no let down of bears. Watch youself on 76 before you get to 71 then around the 186 on 71. Take 270 around the circle, I have my own philophsy about outer-belts (another time). Then watch yourself through the construction on 70 then starting at the 13. Other than that it wont be hard to find a big truck to run your front door. Ohio is a race track. There is no speed limit for trucks unless you get caught! By the way i am a truck driver from Ohio.

Well guys I leave for the great Rotary Revolution event in Indiana on thursday. Do any of you guys know of a strecth of road I should avoid at this point?I am heading through PA on rt 80 onto 76 in OH,and then 70 to Columbus, and the 270 around the city back onto 70 into Indianapolis. Does this sound like a good choice? Thanks in advance.

It must depend on the region or highway. In southern Ohio on the lesser-travelled highways, they don't seem to care too much about 70 in a 55 or 65. Troopers have told me they don't much care about 70 or less. I've actually run 80 from Dayton all the way to Charleston (except for the 2-lane portion). But I do watch myself on the western 26 miles of I-70 and any other place where the traffic is usually heavy.
