Trip to Yellowstone

Made it there and back! 5,700 miles, 350 gallons of fuel, $480 for fuel, roughly 17. 5 mpg round trip and that's pushing between 75 - 85 on the hwy w/AC on! Only had one small problem (other than keeping the windshield clean) 5,400 miles into the trip I heard a chirpin from under the hood during (thank god) a fuel stop. Seems the new Gates belt (which I checked before heading out every morning) I installed before we left decided to pop a nylon band and try to climb in towards the engine. Glad I kept the old Chrysler one. Cut the Gates, 3/8" ratchet, the old one was on in 10 minutes and back on the road.



I have never seen soooo many Dodge Pickups, 2500, 3500's dually & non-dually pulling trailers in my life. If I added the Frds & Chevs together I could honestly say the Dodges had em out numberd . . . BIG TIME

Should, but I think there are less than ten, plenty of CTDs though. Most are cow related work trucks. Think the problem in MT is that driving a PU, being computer literate and having 35 extra bucks seldom happen at the same time.

Did you go over the North East entrance. Beartooth pass. That is one nice drive. If I remember it his around 10,000 ft and there is a real nice spot on top for a picknic.

I grew up in Laurel, and used to skip school and ride my motorcycle up the beartooth pass. You are correct... it is beautiful!

Yellowstone trip

I too have just gotten back from our trip through S. Dakota, Yellowstone and Colorado for a little over 3500 miles. We were lucky enough to even see a grizzly chewing on a bison in Yellowstone.

Sorry no numbers on fuel yet, have not had time.

Hi Rob, Laurel MONTANA is still up here and YES there are a couple of us that like to add a few HP to spice up the horses a little under the hood. We are the fourth largest state but have less than 900k people, so the pickens are thin no matter what you try to put together. We do have a healthy Cummins Booster Club in Billings, but (and don't laugh Illflem) most of them are old ranchers and their wives who just show up to get the free hamburgers. But what the hey, I'm certified to run a hydrocracker unit as well as to run three 15,200 HP turbo fans. We aint all illetirate up hear!

Bouncin' Belt

I had this happen on a Chebby 454. Now I know it isn't the same thing, but in that case, it turned out to be caused by two bad accessory mounts. One was broken, and one was cracked, which caused the belt to shift just a bit on hard use. It may be worth a look. Otherwise, it's the MoPar belt for me!

Saw the same thing last year on our camper trip to the Black Hills. Lots and Lots of Cummins powered Dodges pulling 5th wheels by us like we were standing still. That is the main reason I bought mine. Now I can keep up. Don't have a 5th wheel yet, just a little tent trailer. Probably won't even touch the ground behind the Cummins. Will save on tire wear that way. Can't wait to try it out. Taking a short week trip over Labor Day.
