Can A 1150 Cummins Be Stopped?

The following are trivia questions that test your knowledge of diesel engines and the vehicles they power. These questions apply to trucks and pick-up trucks; they do not apply to engines used in stationary service (generators, water pumps etc). If you don’t know the answers to any of these you aren’t fully repaired for your next chat with a power stroke owner. A little research on the web can resolve them all. Or just read the postings that follow.

Question: How many manufacturers offer a V8 diesel engine for use in vehicular service?

Question: Who is the world’s largest manufacturer of medium sized (truck class) diesel engines?

Question: What is a class 6 truck, class 7 truck, and a class 8 truck.

Question: Does Daimler Chrysler build class 6,7 and 8 trucks? If so what engines (size and fuel) do they offer in these trucks? Who manufactures these engines?

Question: Does DC build diesel engines?

Question: Does Ford build class 6,7 and 8 trucks? If so what engines (size and fuel) do they offer in these trucks? Who manufactures these engines?

Question: Does Ford build diesel engines?

Question: Does General Motors build class 6,7 and 8 trucks? If so what engines (size and fuel) do they offer in these trucks? Who manufactures these engines?

Question: At least two (and maybe more) diesel truck engine manufacturers offer 500 plus HP engines. What is the displacement and configuration of those engines?

(configuration i. e. Inline 4,6,8 cylinder V- 4,6,8,12)

Vehicular as in???????? We call our 380 ton dump trucks vehicular.

The second one can be an essay answer also. Take for instance CAT. They own so many small diesel companies, but dont cary the CAT name on these products. Perkins and Saber are fine examples. Saber is a high performance diesel place out of Europe. If no one told you it was owned by CAT, you would never know.

CAT has engines that range from 4 HP all the way up to the mamoth CAT turbine engines... bet ya didnt know they made those too, did ya. They also own MAK in Germany. They build diesels so big they have doors that open up to the crankcase so you can walk through the engine and inspect it. You can sit a few 18 wheelers in the oil pan of some of them and drive them around.

As far as medium truck market, I think Navistar has sold about 1. 5 million Powerstroke engines since 94 or something like that. I dont know what Cummins build rate is for the 5. 9

CAT also sells their truck engines in Marine applications and generator applications, so those sales numbers could be included as a whole when you get the bottom line number of engines sold.

DC/ChryCo owns Detroit Diesel, so yes they have diesel engines. They also have the Mercedes diesel.

Good questions. Glad to see some one taking the time to learn/teach a little.
