My wife hit the brakes yesterday to avoid someone who pull in front of her, and the check engine light came on after a wizzing sound. The trouble code is P1693

The are two decription in the Dodge manual

DTC Detected in Compansion Module, A fault has been generated in the companion engine manual contol module

DTC Detected in PCM/ECM or DTC Detected in the ECM, A"companion DTC" was set in both the ECM and PCM

Can any one tell me what this means, the power appears to be only down slightly,

Recent change include installing RV275, a comp on level 1x2, and turn buckle.

I am traveling and away for a while, doe anyone know of a good place non dealer to take the truck near Portland if it needs work.

thanks joe

Can the ECMcode be pulled

Can the ECM code be pulled with software or another way and reset? I do not real want to do to the dealer. OCB II software etc. or is Cummings code and only accessible by Cummings software for a reset. The dealer already jerk me around on the transmission that DTT said need clutches.

ECM data can only be accessed by the dealers or cummins computer systems, unless u happen to know someone with one of these systems, pcm data my be read by clicking the ignition switch on and off a few times and the PCM codes will be displayed through the odometer window. there is no way to actually delete a code stored in either the ecm or pcm unless you have the computer system to hook up to the truck.

Sometimes when you hit the brakes real hard, the computer gets a code from the airbag sensors. (It thinks you were in an accident) A knowledgeable body shop should know something about this. Not sure if this applies to our trucks, but I know other cars have it. Just an idea...

JBlock,

I'm having the same problem you are having. My truck has been doing this for a couple of months now. After reading your post, I realized that mine started the same way yours has. After a car pulled out in front of me a couple of months ago it has been down hill from there. Last niight I checked the code in the odometer and the same P-1693 came up. I'm thinking of going to the local stealership today. I'll keep you posted on any progress. Please let me know if you have any luck fixing this problem.

Thanks,

Eddy B.

Since I have been having problems simular to those here. I took my printout to the local dealer when I picked up my APPS.

I too had the P1693 code. "DTC" =Diagnostic Troubleshooting Code. "

Since the APPS install yesterday I will await and see if I get anymore C. E. L. 's

Two codes as well 1693,1682

These two codes have come up the last two weeks and am having a dealer work on them tomorrow with alot of luck may help. Also had P-0230 comeup as well.

Code clear by itself

I just spoke to home and the code clear itself and the truck running great. So all is fine for now. I got the Harrision software to run to check for clearing any residusal codes.

thanks to all for the comments.

socal_rattler,You were looking in the wrong module for the code. 1693 tells you to look in the other module for the code that triggered the check engine light.
