Happy Holidays everyone.

Okay, I’ve searched and apparently this is a common issue but I was overwhelmed by the information and would appreciate some specific advice.

I have a 2004. 5 2500 2WD truck with about 123,000 miles. I’ve had it for about 6 months.

I was heading to a Christmas gathering with the cruise on at about 65 mph and all of a sudden the truck surged then the accelerator pedal was unresponsive. There were no issues on the 25 mile drive home. I pulled the OBDII codes this morning and I’m getting P2121 and P2123, which has something to do with the throttle positioning Sensor or I see sometimes it’s called an accelerator pedal position sensor.

What do I need to do to fix this? Just replace the TPS / APPS? If so what is the part number for a 2004. 5?

Could it be something else? I’ve read there were common electrical shorts, could this be causing it?

Thanks for the help as I don’t think it’s best for me to drive it due to the surging so I’d like to be able to fix it quick.

P2123 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch D Circuit High Input

Possibly it has something to do with the CC? Depends on whether it is a manual truck or an auto. They CC is implemented a bit differently and each has its own unique failures.

If it is surging without CC then its a bigger problem, otherwise driving it is not a big deal as the default on failure is defuel.

It's an auto. What is the CC and how do I check it? It was a one time issue so far but I haven't driven it. Hoping to fix it locally tomorrow when the parts stores open tomorrow.

CC is cruise control. You will be lucky to find an APPS and luckier if the price doesn't scare you. The best place to get one is here Timbo APPS.

I would make sure the connection to the APPS is seated good and it is clean then drive it after clearing the codes. If the codes and problems come back then get a Timbo APPS.
