Trouble Codes

I was reading some posts on trouble codes and how to retrieve them. Being curious I performed the "turning the key on and off" procedure. To my surprise a code popped up. The code was P0500.

I was wondering if anybody knows what this code is? My truck runs great.

According to the Y2K shop manual P0500:No Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal--A Vehicle Speed signal was not detected. .

Not sure what that means,just quoting from manual.

Does anybody know what kind of effect this trouble code should have on my truck.

As I said earlier, my truck seems to be running fine.

P-done mean everything is good?

Can anyone with a shop manual tell me what this means? After I cycled the key three times, my odometer gave me this:
P PCU
P 1693
P done
P ECU
P 0237
P done

An explanation would be greatly appreciated.

Here is what it shows in y2k shop manual:
P1693 #ad
TC detected in PCM/ECMor DTC detected in ECM--A"Companion DTC was set in both the ECM and PCM.

P0237-Map Sensor Voltage too Low-MAP sensor input below the minimum accecptable voltage.
Again,I'm just quoting the book. Wish I could elaborate more.

I don't understand, Blkdemon says he got the codes on his odometer(2001) and I have a 98. 5 and goosing the switch 3 times won't produce codes. Is it my year or am I doing something wrong?

I had my EMC reflashed by cummins today. Right after they were done with the reflash my check engine light came on. I tried the recyle key thing nothing happened. I have a 99. What years does this work on???

yes all codes are in the book , and p done is end code , if you have nothing but that you are fine.

Spitty - I beleive that the speed sensor is used by the Anti-Lock Brake System so you might want to call the dealer and verify.
