Recently had my diesel shop install a new south bend clutch on my truck. Within a week of having it back I was towing my offshore boat, went to throw it in reverse and it refused to go into gear initially. It wasn’t after some back and forth shifting between 1st and R that it eventually went into gear. 1st was also sticking.
Unhitched the boat and drove the truck around to see if the problem persisted - it did not, albeit the 1st and R didn’t feel smooth.
Just this past week decided to take my 27’ travel trailer out. Once again I threw it into reverse with the trailer on and it gave me problems shifting into reverse - similar to the first time but not as bad.
I don’t normally use 1st except when towing. I almost always start out out of 2nd. I don’t seem to be having any problems shifting except with 1 and R. There seems to be some subtle grinding except when I have the clutch engaged. I confirmed the transmission fluid level is good.
Shop that did the work is a month out. This seems to be too coincidental not to be clutch related to me, but the shop doesn’t see it that way and therefore it’s unlikely I can jump to the front of the line. I have no choice but to give it back to them, but thought is didn’t hurt to ask for opinions on what the issue could be.
