I think I spun a bearing or lost a piston or something.

I was racing a ricer on the interstate then proceeded down the off ramp, when I heard a loud knocking or pounding from the motor. There is some oil dripping from the front of the motor, but cant tell where from yet. I was pushing the truck hard at about 1750 egt's for about 10 sec. 's.

Now the truck seems to idle smoothe and there is no more smoke from the exhaust then the usual puff of white at start up then clears up. Just the very very loud knocking sounding like metal to metal. Will be pulling the motor in a few days. Any suggestion? Bearing? piston?

I havent done any motor work before other than pulling the head on this motor to have it o-ringed, so this is a major undertaking on my part.

The motor has 200,000 miles on it now.

is it possible a 2000 could have a kdp problem? if so the pin could have come out and done damage. you could remove the oil filter and cut open . if there is a failure there will be metal in there. good luck.

Pull the oil filter off and cut it open. I'd bet it's full of Aluminum Flakes. You probably burnt a piston and scored the cylinder.

KDP = Killer Dowel Pin. This a a dowel pin that lines the timing cover up with the block, and I have heard it can be a problem through 2002 engines. When it works its way out, it can fall to the bottom or jam in the gears. Potential major damage. Since you are going in anyways, it might be a place to start looking. At 1750 degrees, I might look for the KDP, but I'd put my money on #6hole being a problem. Good luck
