I started to install the new steering shaft from Borgeson and came to a quick halt when I couldn't get the old shaft to compress for removal. I put some WD-40 on the slip joint and plan on giving it another try later. Does anyone have any suggestions.

If I can't get it off the second try it will end up being a job for Carson Dodge.

Hmmmm, sounds like a job for the ol' Sawzall :p

On a more serious note I can't remember reading about anyone having this problem. Lots of posts about positive results after the install and a few talking about dis-satisfiying customer service from Borgeson and the Borgeson shaft has a tendacy to rust or something like that. Been awhile since I've read those posts so I could be wrong, but I can remember reading about some gripes on the Borgeson units. I think Flaming River is the other outfit making replacement shafts and never heard any complaints about them.

You took the bolt off the steering box end right? :p Just kidding. You may try turning the wheel stop to stop a couple of times to make it break free. Lastly, when I had to take the one off my 98, I had to use a flat crowbar. If you know the kind I'm talking about they are made of flat steel. Anyway, on the steering box end, I applied firm leverage and she finally broke loose and the coupling slid just fine. It took a while tho.

Just don't apply force or shock to the steering column end in any way. No I am not worried about the air bag deploying I am worried about you breaking the cheesy plastic bearing and retainer setup in the lower end of the column. It is not available separately and the column is about $350.

I finally had time to install the new Borgeson Steering shaft. Yes, I did have to use the sawsall. The installation was fairly simple.

Now I will have to read up on how to get the steering wheel back to the correct position. It is 90drgrees off. Thanks to everyone for the comments. It helped... ... ... ... ... BK

BK, You can adjust your draglink. That's the bar going from the pitman arm to the passenger side tie-rod. Loosen the adjustment clamps and use channel-loks to move the adjustment sleeve. Have someone sit in the truck so you will know which way to adjust the draglink. Oh, and I know this is obvious, make sure the wheels are straight before you start. All it takes is a small adjustment. Takes about 10 minutes. -Glen

All is well. I have the steerring wheel adjucted correctly and the truck tracks correctly.

I am now investigating the track bar situation to see if I should replace it next. I have 150k on my 94 and I am correcting some items that are starting to show wear.

I Appreciate all the expert knowledge on this site. It allows me to save the shop labor charge and have fun at the same time... ... ... ..... Thanks... ... ..... BK
