When I was at a stoplight today, my truck, with my foot on the brakes, the truck started to lurch forward on its own accord!!! When the light turned green, the truck acted like it had little power, moderate smoke and just erratic..... When I pulled to a turn lane to get off the main road, the truck died..... :{ Fire it uo, no problem, drop it into drive... . dies... ... This process was repeated 7-10 times with several interested people behind me wondering what was going on and expressing their concern with single digit gesticulations... ... Finally, I fired it up, brought it it to about 2000 rpm and dropped into drive. The truck shuddered across the street to the relative safety of the sidestreets. Immediately I headed for home and have had nary a problem since. No check engine light, fuel psi 18 all other gauges read ok. I changed the fuel filter 2 weeks ago, and zero problems firing up then?... ... Any one have any ideas on what this might be?..... :{ ... I was planning a trip to Mexico and don't want this type of thing happening on the beach and interfering with my social hour... ..... Any comments would be appreciated.....

Sounds to me like the torque converter is stayin locked. Im not much on diagnosin autos but the way you described it sounds like in a manual when you dump the clutch in a high gear from a dead standstill. Ive been in on truck like that. they left the torque converter lock up switch on and it would buck and snort and jerk violently. So my bet is something in the valve body or the torque converter is goin haywire

Garrett,

Thx for the response, I hadn't thought of a TC problem, the goverpressure sensor and transducer solenoid were recently replaced... . i hope the 47re is not on the way out... ... . I initially suspected a computer issue or fueling problem..... Thx for the input.....

It looks like I will be posting this for myself and the other lone individual who cares... (thx garrett)...

The truck now has this problem again... ... . The Auto zone ODB code reader says... ... Code 1693..... Turbo Charger Control Circuit Malfunction and code 602..... PCM has determined that an error has occured in the controlmodule programming... ... ...

Now what?... Can I drive it around, is it hurting anything?... Will anyone out there read this?..... Does anyone care... . Hello... ... .

I will try to figure it out :(

Your T/C is probadly locked up. Have you dropped the transmission pan? If so

what does the fluild look like? Don't drive it. . You should jack up the rear

and block up good. Start truck, and slip it in drive, run it up threw the gears

to 55 mph, and hold that steady and record your rpms there. If you let it

idle down, (still in drive), and put on the parking brake hard, and it wants to

die, or lug down and smoke like crazy, your t/c & or transmission could be bad...

Another ck. , is for the T/C being locked for some other reason, maybe a

bad ground or signal. You can take-out the trans. relay, and try the same

procedure above. I have just went threw this very same problem on wifes

99 stock, 2500. MilamT

Hey, I think I remember that the code 1693 is really only telling you you have another code to watch for... ... . it is saying the computer found a code, like no ****, when the next code comes out, I guess you would be too stupid to see that. There are other definitions of 1693, but the one I mentions seems most commonly accurate...

Sounds like the TC lock up to me also. The Converter might be junk, or the solenoid in the transmission. I know if the screen in the solenoid get full of junk. The TC will stay locked, but not sure if it will in all gears, I know in a 350c gm transmission if the screen gets blocked (so the solenoid can't vent) and the tc stays in. A simple move in Reverse will take care of in for each time it stays lock because when you put in in reverse it kicks the tc spool back to the unlock position.

Thanks all for the response, I was fearing the VP44 was saying goodbye. Bob, I have emailed Pete and he has always been very good about giving information and williing to help out. I will check the transmission and run that test... . Thanks again for all the help..... :)

Happened to me several times when putting the truck in reverse. I talked to a friend (DTT Installer as well) that experienced this in all gears, he fixed it by replacing the VP. I checked codes and found the 0216, a replacment VP44 fixed my problem as well.

After speking with some other folks who have a Catcher, it looks like the Catcher "masks" the 0216 code for dead VP44 and gives a generic Fueling problem code in my case 1693 and 0602. I am currently trying to find a way to be sure that my injection pump is really dead, I don't want to replace it unless its absolutely necessary..... Thanks for all the input... ...

Sorry to come in late on this - my '99 did the same thing. Something in the TC had gone wrong. Replaced about 35k ago, and no problems since. It is definitely an interesting experience when the truck wants to leave the stoplight without permission!

Thanks for all the responses, truck was at the dealer for a week with no answers. Going to a different shop Mon so hopefully they can iron it out.....

Well, another Mopar transmission will soon be a boat anchor. After reading all the good info on transmission's, I have decided to go with a new DTT... . I am happy and sad all in one. I know it will be a great investment but it was a big bullet to bite... ... . BTW the TC was the culprit.....
