Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) truck acts like it has a govener

I'm new to this. I need some help from you guys! I have a 01 24valve completely stock 5spd, 93,000 mi on it. When I start it sometimes no matter if it is cold out or hot my truck will idle fine but I go to pull out it will seem like it's sluggish and hesitate. If I stop and shut it off and start it again it will run fine! 2nd problem I'll be running down the highway about 70 to 75 and the truck will start losing speed down to about 52 to about 55 and the RPM wont go over 1700 if I go to the side and slow down and come to a stop or go to the side of the road and shut it down and start it again it will run fine. I had it to the dealer and they changed the fuel transfer pump Is that also called the lift pump. after they changed it it ran fine for a day then started it again. dealer says cant find no problem with it. also I get about 14mpg. if anyone has suggestions or can help would be great.

Why did they change the lift pump? How did they find it was bad? Were there any codes? P0216 maybe. What is your truck 2500? 3500? 4x4? 4. 10 or 3. 55 gears? Sounds to me like the APPS is bad (accelerator position sensor) 14 MPG is what I am getting right now with the winter fuel and a 3500 4x4 dually quad cab but I have gotten as high as 19 if I slow down on summer fuel. A non-working lift pump will cause bad mileage. If it doesn't get better I would suggest changing the IAT intake air temperture sensor for starters.

Not the IAT!

A bad IAT would NOT cause those problems!



Sounds like lack of fuel supply ( lift pump ) or maybe a problem with the MAP sensor.

sorry about that is a 2500 quad cab 4x4 with 3. 55 gears. The dealer said that they changed it because there was good fuel pressure to the pump but when it came out the other side it was to low. where is a apps located and is that still covered on the engine warrenty.

I meant the IAT for the low fuel mileage not the dead throttle

this dealer sounds like a real winner. i don't know how it would have pressure on the inlet side because that just comes from the fuel tank(no pressure) the outlet goes to the vp44. here's where you should have pressure 14psi or so at idle.
