My wife was going to take the kids to school this morning and saw the car was broken into and the ignition was busted. It's an old Ford focus but we started parking it right behind the dodge blocking the driveway after I heard about all these trucks being stolen the last few months. The hood was up on the truck but no visible damage.

I'm thinking they were going to move the pos Ford so they could get the Dodge out but either I came out for work or one of the dogs heard them and scared them off. Normally I hear the Corso bark if someone is close and I didnt last night.

Anyway, I pulled the starter relay under the hood but I dont know if that will be enough, the car is broke so my wife cant keep it in front of the truck while I'm gone a few days. Anyone have any suggestions that she can do easily that would keep my truck from being stolen until I get back? Any help is appreciated. I dont know if they can bypass the starter relay from under the hood but I'm sure anything is possible.

What part of Cruces are you in? I guess it doesn't really matter anymore though, nothing nice is safe anymore. I'm glad that nothing was hurt. Time to get a rot and watch the mohows run...

You can do the clutch bypass thing on a six speed or auto. Wire in a hidden toggle switch. There are details of how to do this somewhere on this site. I have been thinking about doing this.

You can always shut one of the dogs in the truck at night. :-laf Especially if they will attack a stranger. Oo.

Just unplug the VP-44 harness from the pump. I am sure the idiots would have no idea to look there. Its easy to unplug, and its kinda hidden under the intake horn, and if you shove it under some other wires, you would never even notice it.

Doesnt matter what you unplug, they`ll still jimmy the door, damaging something in the process. . Maybe a few spotlights and a fake camera with a red light on it, out of reach. . the dog in the cab idea is pretty good. .

I`ve always wanted an 'electrified' alarm, one that puts oh, 10kv thru the body if the alarm is set off. .

Then again, there is always the 110vac cord wired into the seat with barbs for the buttox. . that might work real good if the truck is parked in front of the house. Could even wire in an alarm horn if the 110v was cut... hmmmmmmmmmm

good luck, hope you keep em away

In the book for "Men In Black" the alarm system for the LTD was great. When they get out to see the Pawn Shop guy (played by Tony Shaloub) many bums tried to steal the LTD. The handles were electrified. When the bad guys grabbed the door handles they were instantly vaporized to dust.

The problem with low voltage is they'll live to sue. I've seen more than one occasion on the news locally and nationally the bad guy gets hurt while breaking into your house. The bad guy sues the home owner for negligence.

Show her how to use the SMARTY, and download the "no start" update that marco made. If you do not know how to update your SMARTY contact Bob.

Security

I have one of those take the key out switch ($20) on the battery cable, will work anywire you choose to install it. Also ran a wire to hidden toggle thats power off to the injection pump.

Just hope the jerk doesn't get ****** that he can't steal the truck, so he cut's the interior up, and bust up the dash. I've seen it done. If he can't have it, you won't have a nice ride, either.

Put a toggle switch from the starter under the dash, or wherever. Reroute the starter through a relay/solenoid, as the switch fires the relay/solenoid.

I have a 135db air horn connected to my alarm. Makes it physically painful to stand next to the truck when it goes off.

I needed a very good reason besides scarying the SH*& out of someone, that's it!!! :D

sounds dum but take a tire off put on a jack stand or pull two fuses disabling the truck to start that should stop them dead so they wont mess with it. remember a theft wants to take your ride fast the more time he screws around there more time he has to get caught. trust me i know and so does my uncle they tryed stealing my kenworth and the got 7 of our brand new e7 power mack dumps they were found and disassemble and motors ready to be shiped to mexico 3 trucks are m. i. a and i say brand new not even 3 days old havent had a load in them. its been a big problem around here lots of macks and cummins power trucks stolen.

Put a visible deterant on it, such as a club, or even a sign that let's them know you shoot and ask questions later. Of course this will only make them think twice if it does deter them at least the body, glass or lock won't be screwed with. The visible is only a deterant - you have to back it up with at least one electronic system disabled. They lifted the hood, on the truck right? - I'm sure they were probably looking for an alarm horn to unplug or some indication if there was a disabling device? Sorry to hear, but there's alot of jerks out there. I also like the sleeping with 12 gauge or letting the dog sleep in the cab option.

Good Luck.

I wasn't aware of this one. I'm going to have to get me one of these smarty 'anti-theft' things before my next trip out west... :-laf

Just show her how to pull fuse # 9 on the fuse panel to the left of the steering wheel, truck will not start with out it. And put the fuse cover back on .

If you have a home alarm system, especially if it is currently wireless, place one of those battery operated wireless zone sensors in the truck that is tied to your house system. The same type of sensor that security companies place in rooms to tell if someone has entered your house. Most security companies can program your home alarm system to do this and trigger immediately rather than wait the 30 seconds or so you typically get to turn of the security system. This can be done generally quite cheaply and you have a great at home car alarm.

Most thieves won't know what hit them when they break in and your house alarm goes off. I do that on trailers and trucks that is when I am not living at the farm.
