Was wondering if any of you guys have built your own "storage system" for your truck bed? I've been searching the net and have come to the conclusion that Truck Vault is the only manufacture of such device. any Ideas? or suggestions? Thanks

I made these.........

Cost is around $100 for lumber and hardware. If your interested I can tell you about the rollers and how to make it work. Just make some room on the side of the drawers mine worked great till it started raining and then they swelled a little. Come summer everything should be fine again.

I just used wood sealer on the top and it keep everything inside dry. A good paint would work too.

I'm planning on building a system this summer. I wasn't familiar with Truck Vault until now. Lots of good ideas and plans on there, but their prices are scary. I doubt I'll do drawers, more likely just boxes with hatches from the top side. I was thinking about making them from 16 ga steel because I can't weld aluminum.

I was talking with my brother about building one of those systems where you open the tailgate and the whole drawer slides out the back from under a cover.

We figured a garage door track and rollers would be a good start.

I bet we could buy extra long slides like a kitchen drawer uses, but there pretty expensive.

His problem is he keeps buying 6' beds, but wants to be able to have a place to carry his carpenter tools as well.

Storage

Have you checked the automotive department

at Wally Mart ?? Some interesting low cost storage boxes there which might be modified a bit to meet your needs.

What about the replacement bed we found a few years back? The one with storage in the fenders and in front and back of the wheel wells. It wasnt cheap but sure was/is a nice looking replacement.

The drawers that Big White Beast showed pics of really work great. Using his ideas to build my own has been very useful addition at a small cost and they roll out very easily.

I like the drawers that BWB has. Are they fastened somehow to prevent them from tipping when you pull them all the way out? If they do that looks like the ticket.

Mine are not fastened............

Then again I rarley open more than two at a time. And put all the stuff I don't use often toward the back. That and I have so much junk piled on to I doubt they could move if they wanted to.

This box has no bottom. My utility bed is flat so that worked out. If you were to do the same on a regular bed you'd have to align the rollers to the troughs.

On my older trucks I built a complete box with bottoms. I have pics of the different roller set ups. Give me your E-mail and I can send you them.
