I have been reading about NOT using the tie downs in the truck bed of the Dodge. I have the2004 long bed Quadcab. How does one go about finding out exactly how much tension can be put on the tie downs before they will fail? If I want to secure a 1000 pound load, will it hold? If I want to use them for fastening something far heavier, what are the limits? Anyone know?

I added monster commercial truck style tie-downs after losing a brand new Quad off of my truck while utilizing the factory plastic bollards. I have an Ultimate 2-place quad rack that had been 'secured' to the factory tie downs with turnbuckles. I discovered later that with the factory bedliner, they relocate the tie downs onto a sheet metal "Z" shaped bracket that is next to worthless for securing anything. Thank goodness I was unloading the machine when the rack tipped over, an not on the road. It could have been a far worse disaster.

If the '04 are black plastic like the '06s are I wouldn't use them anymore more than holding a cargo net or bungee cords.
