When I bought my truck the brake lights and blinkers did not work. We replaced a fuse and the brake lights worked for a short period. The Dodge dealer replaced all the fuses associated with the signals and brakes. I picked up my truck today to come home and noticed the voltmeter was pegged all the way at 18 so I called the Dodge dealer and he said it would be ok to drive to Baton Rouge. Got about 50 miles down the road and the truck dies on the interstate... no power steering, brakes, nothing. The truck would also turn over but not crank so I thought my lift pump went out. The WTS light would not come on so I checked the fuse box and the engine control fuse was shot. Replaced the fuse with the hazard flasher fuse and the truck fired right up and the voltmeter didn't move the rest of the trip. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? If it's something easy to diagnose and fix I'll do it myself. If not then the Dodge company is going to get it and the dealer is paying for it.

Thanks for the help.

You either have a baked harness, or your alternator is going out.

Test the output of the alternator first. Truck running, multimeter, black to frame, red to the hot lead on the alt. Then check the volts of the batteries with the truck still running. It should be the same. Make sure nothing metal or conductive is touching the alt.

Check your wire harnesses in the engine compartment for areas that may have rubbed through the insulation.

 I hate eletrical problems. Too hard to track.

10-4. I hate electrical problems too. Luckily the dealership I bought the truck from is going to foot the bill for this thing. Thnks for the info.
