As usually I am slow to come up to speed on the new items out there in the truck marketplace. I have resigned my self to needing, note I said needing a new 3500 Megacab. This is not your run of the mill Megacab either it has to be loaded. My wife bless her heart likes traveling more in the truck than in our 04 Maxima. She absolutly loves the 01 and often if you were traveling behind me would see her doing laps changeing between the front and the back seat, standing, climbing through the slider grabbing stuff out of the bed all the time we are doing 80+. We recently relocated to the Springs from AL. On the way things were very craped with the car seat, CAT and 75lb Black Lab all in the back. That was a long 1400 miles. Thus the need for the Megacab.

I feel a little discouraged reading the threads about the new 07 6. 7. The TDR community seems to meet this change with great caution. I have done my homework and looked everywhere for an 06. I started this search too late and they just don't seem to exist. With that said I was looking at the 07 that is out there right now. It appears to be the same truck as the 06 except it has the different badging, tail lights (yuk) and a kitty. Looked under the hood and didn't find all the emisions stuff only the cat. My question is, will the same Edge computer work with the 07 5. 9? I know the cat is not desirable but if you had to get something would it be a deal breaker? I will be purchasing a Gooseneck 3 horse slant with an undermined amount of living quarters in the spring. We are going to make the most of Colorado and do some horse camping in the mountains. I think the SRW will pull this just fine and allow for better tire upgrades in the future.

Regards,

JDR

The 07 5. 9 is identical to the 06 5. 9. The 06's have cats also. I really like my truck and would buy another one in a heartbeat if I had too. The best truck I have ever owned so far and hopefully it will last a long time. Get an 07 and you will be a happy horse camper. Scotty

Hey JDR,

You wouldn't happend to be an Army Aviator, would you? Just asking, cause I was stationed at Mother Rucker years and years ago, as well as Carson.

You might try these 2 dealers..... both offer at 1000 back of invoice, less all rebates and 500 for the farm bureau discount if your part of that program... .

They both have a fly in program... ...

Dave Smith... . Kellogg ID, largest dodge dealer in the world... ... not open on Sunday... . Marty new truck sales... www.davesmith.com

Dishman Dodge - Spokane WA - Rob Crosswhite... . Largest Dodge dealer in WA and maybe 2nd to dave smith... Open on Sunday... . www.dishmandodge.com

Tell both guys your a TDR member... . they will either work with you over the phone or fax... both usually have several hundred trucks either in stock or on the way... Dave Smith usually has over 500 units on the ground at any one time... .

You might find that it is worth you while to contact them... . and if you want an exhaust brake on your 06, we'd be happy to take care of you following delivery... .

Hope this helps... .

FLynes, I am not an Army Aviator. I am in the Springs working on Missile Defense. You may have heard of the GMD program. I do Asset Mangement on that program.

jelag, where in spokane are you located? I went to school at Washington State University down the road in Pullman. I am very familiar with Spokane and Dave Smith. Marty is the guy I usually deal with. I dealt with him on my last purchase and he was great. I think I will give them a call.

What do you think I could sell mine for. I was on Kelly Blue Book and for a private party sale it said 19k. That doesn't take into account all the extras. I was just curious. I think I am going shine her up and put her up for sale. Any advice is welcome. Thank you for all your replys.

Regards,

JDR

JDR, I pull a gooseneck horse trailer without living quarters (they will be added sooner or later) and can tell you that a SRW will be a purchase you will regret, particularly in the mountains and where there are curvy roads.

Err on the side of caution and get a dually, for your horses' sake.

I think you will be pleased with the '07, cat or not. Sorry 'bout the taillights. I don't like them either.

Good luck finding a truck... I hope you can grab an '06.

I have an '06 Megacab srw and a dually reg cab. I also have a three horse slant with living quarters and live right in the mountains of Colorado. Unless your pin wieght is really up there, which it shouldn't be unless you are pulling a 40'+ trailer, the srw is the way to go. I would go further and say that if camping in the mountains with the horse trailer is on the menu, the last thing you want is a dually on the forest service roads. Tire choices stink, they aren't as good in the winter and certainly not the ticket for any off-highway adventures. What you definately will want is the jake brake. I have the Mopar one on the Mega and its is THE ticket for pulling in the mountains.

Your wife will love the new truck. My wife often drives the Megacab instead of her Porsche Cayenne S

SRW pulling 27K all day. No Training Wheels, No Problem!

If your Really Heavy, go to 19. 5's and a G rated 14 ply @110 psi.

Makes you wonder how ranchers ever made it before training wheels in the mid-70's

Thank you guys for weighing in. I really appreciate it. I was wondering if anyone had any input on what my 01 is worth. It has many extras on it that the dealer won't give me anything perhaps less if I trade it. Like I mentioned the milage is 104,876.

Thank you again,

JDR
