Does anybody use the Security drawer from Geno's for storing a handgun in their truck or is there something better - read more secure?

How about a source for something similar for other vehicles?

Brian

In my opinion

The only good/safe place for a concealed firearm is on your person. I understand that on the seat is convenient and fairly handy but if you are in and out of the truck... .

Do you reholster? LEAVE IT IN THE TRUCK!? I should hope not.

A mini safe in the truck is an alternative but how convenient is it to get to when you may need it?

On te seat under a rag. Quick until you need it and the adrenaline is pumping and you point a rag at him that will interfere with the operation of the pistol. Cocked and locked? Sounds like a 1911 man to me. I like ya already.

The other main problem with the pistol on the seat is that most carjackings happen in a suprise situation. It's not normally a guy walking up to you calmly. A lot of the time it is a car in front of you slamming on the brakes. You slam on you brakes. How good is the pistol on the floor?

These are all what if's? But the only thing that is certain in life... ... well you get the idea.

On your person, concealed.

Gall's?

You guys that use Galls may be supprised to learn Gall's has been raided by Homeland Security. They were shut down yesterday

I like a SOB holster, with the lumbar support backed off, the right holster is pretty comfortable. Keeps the butt of my cocked and locked Kimber in about the position I would use reaching for a wallet.

What about stuffing it between the driver seat and the center console cushion? Muzzle down, real handy, and it won't end up on the floor. My 1911 fits in there almost like it was made to.

All you guys with 1911's.....I'm getting all choked up

Between the console and the seat is a lot more secure but then not "as" concealable. I have done that on long road trips.

SOB, how fast is that to present from concealment... .

I know not very.....

Try getting rushed from another guy or 2 and knocked on the ground... fairly good chance that you will sustain very severe back injuries.

I am by no means an expert on the subject, I am only 25 but, I do have a very educated background in firearms training and (not to step on anybodies toes) With the proper balance of safety and concealability there is nothing that really beats strongside inside the wasteband or out with the proper concealment.

Your right handed, you can still get to you pistol with your left if the right arm is out of the fight and vice versa.

Not so with many other carry options out there. Don't even think about bringing up fad holsters like thunderware, or pager pal.

Again these are my opinions and like the saying goes, To each there own.

I am big on the fact that you have to be able to present your weapon from the holster with the least amount of movement and the greatest amount of speed, From almost any position.

I like this thread because it has to do with my 2 hobbies. Diesels and Firearms.

Thanks to all the guys on here talking about worthwhile and very important subjects.

Russ - What Tcolesanti said is about what I do. And it's just a little old dirty red shop rag. No, I don't leave it in the truck. Yes, it's a 1911 - Springfield 1911 w/Wilson Combat 8 rd mag (8+1=9) - or the Kimber Compact. Too bad they don't make a . 46, eh?

Beats a glock anyday:D I own them too but I can rag on it.

Like I said I have done most of these even though I may not agree with them 100% They are handy. By the book though, keeping them on your person is the safest and most concealable.

BTW, I do love my Springfields..... I have a TRP that I use in comps and a compact that keeps me company... .

The rest of the 1911's..... well I just tell the wife they are backups:D

You know, the absolutely best thing about the 1911 is you can own ten of 'em and the wife thinks it's the same gun.

BTW- I have 4 different holsters. There is nothing better than a good quality leather belt/hip holster w/ a Kimber compact . 45. Doesn't even feel like it's there. I'm a midget so a full size 1911 feels like I'm wearing a leg splint... . :)

Personally, I would never leave any firearm in a vehicle just based on the fact personal liability would be in jeopardy should your vehicle get boosted, gun stolen, and then used in a crime. While this is an extreme, civil liabilities/lawsuits are very broad. Besides, if you get carjacked and you don't have a chance to grab the gun, you'll still have it on you when you get out of the vehicle.

Let me add a bit more info:

I'm starting with a local police department on Aug 3rd. There will/may be times/places that I do not want to carry my badge/gun/cuffs/mags on my person and I'd like a secure (relatively) place to store them in my truck.

well said Scooter

I am slowly going over to the Dark side, Kydex I mean. I love my leather with a Kimber Ultra Compact but that Kydex is quicker when it comes to actually being timed.

Since ya asked, the SOB is very comfortable to drive in, with a little pressure in the small of the back, right where the lumbar support is at, which is why I said it will be comfortable to back off the seats support a little. With the right adjustment, you don't even feel it back there. It is very concealable, and yet, if I reach for it, it looks more like I am reaching for my wallet, than a gun. It would be almost impossible to draw left handed though. I am a righty. With practice, you can get it out and front and center almost as fast as a high ride on the hip. I just like the way the butt doesn't hit the back of the seat twisting it forward, like my hip holsters do. I have also used a cheap Uncle Mikes nylon for my Colt 1911, which I carried before I got the Kimber. It had the belt loops on both sides, and I carried it with the belt outside. This pulled it closer in, and with a loose shirt hanging over it, produced no visible bulge, even with the full size 45 in it. So tight that my brother, a police officer, used to borrow it for undercover work, when he saw that I had a full . 45 hidden and he couldn't see it. I love the Kimber because in a hurry, you can stuff it in your front jeans pocket and it won't show, unless your jeans are tight, but don't sit with it there. That's the Stainless Ultra Carry model. 7+1 rds of full house . 45 power with a 3" barrel. I used to have a 9mm Glock, but found that when I thought I might need a gun to carry, that my life would depend on, I kept going back to the . 45 I too have used the stuffed between the seats method, depends on if I was staying in the truck or not.

To be honest, I believe that there are lots of reasons even non law enforcement people have to leave the gun in the truck (my own employer won't let me carry a weapon into the building, but also Federal buildings, schools, hospitals, bars, etc. ) Obviously the rarity of those instances would vary from person to person as we all have different daily habits and routines, but at least for me, they will definitely present themselves fairly often.

I've been thinking about the drawer Geno's sells too. I just haven't seen anything else out there that looks as convenient and as secure.

Those of you who have a "Geno's drawer" in your truck, or have seen them first-hand--how secure are they? More than the glove box?

Mike

Well that puts a whole new spin on things. I thought you were just talking about general storage of the firearm.

One thing that needs to be stressed is that muscle memory is a very serious factor. It is best to carry your weapon of choice in the same place all the time. When the adrenaline starts pumping and you are in the situation your body will automatically revert to what you practiced.

God forbid it happens to anyone, but when it does you are only going to be half as good under stress as you are on your best day. Don't give the bad guy an edge.

Well, Russ, you beat me to it. Me, I like the Galco hip holster and my SIG 229. The only change that I ever make is when I go to my Galco shoulder rig with the 220. Muscle memory. Muscle memory. Muscle memory.

It is the rare one among us that can masterfully handle many eq changes. They usually are the Combat Masters, and there are not so many of those.

You know the old addage "Beware the man with one gun, for he surely knows how to use it!"

I, also, am no expert. I just know what works for me. I like knowing exactly where it is, on my right hip mostly. The shoulder rig just is a bit more comfortable and easier to get to in colder weather when I am weaing heavy over pants and such.
