Camping Fever

Buying a slidein camper soon. I'm thinking about skipping the connection in the bed and running a long pigtail from the factory connection at the bumper. One of my main concerns is disturbing Canbus. Any opinions?

Before the 5er (before kids), we had an '03 Eagle Cap camper and that is exactly the way we connected the truck to the camper.

The RV dealer supplied me with a 12' long harness with a male 7-way at each end.

I didn't want to cut a hole in my bed for the connection and the harness laid in the bed nicely.

Our trucks have the additional 4-way tail-light connector if you want to tow a boat or trailer.

Hope this helps,

Louis

Frankly, I see no reason to have the connection in the bed either. I also made my own pigtail to reach the plug in point on the bumper when I bought my new truck. I now have a 5 th wheel and still plug it in the back with the wire draped over the tailgate.

Several companies make a harness that plugs into the stock harness before the 7 pin that is in the tow package. this gives you a slide in/5th wheel type harness that is long enough to reach the drivers side of the bed and has a normal 7 pin receptacle with it, I mount one of these in the side of the bed and then modify my Lance plug to fit. I can either pull a fiver or use a slide in camper without worrying about the computer
