I have been reading this forum for some time and have finally joined. I have a 2001. 5 2500 Quad cab long bed and am looking for a truck cap. Any suggestions on a good cab high? I have looked at a few and the A. R. E. seems to be good quality.

I also have a Raven (Glasstite), but in the cab-high. I was fairly impressed with initial quality, paint, fit etc. . I have only had it one year (got it before the snow fell last fall) and I am still pleased with the way it is holding up. I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to caps and such, so there may be a better product out there, but I am pleased with mine. That's all I can offer:)

I've had two Leer's, one cab high cap that was excellent and matched the truck lines perfectly. They ain't cheap, but they sure are top quality.

The ARE's look nice also, but I saw some post's recently (bad ones :mad: ) concerning the fact that when ARE discontinues a particular model, they apparently also discontinue stocking any parts. They told the TDR member that his only option was to buy a newer one, and I believe the one he had was only 3 years old.

Do a search, maybe you'll find the posts.

I just put a SnugTop Xtra Vision on mine, it looks great. It has features like oversized glass, sliding side windows with screens, sliding front window, an interior light and a sweet LED 3rd brake light. Only bad part was the price of about $1600 for a shortbed.

I have a leer cab high and would not recommend leer to anyone. They are very high priced and the quality stinks. I've had mine a year to the day and the window frame has broke, the trim is falling off, the decals were put on crooked. I took it to the local leer dealer (for warranty) and he told me he would not help me that I'd have to take it to where I bought it which is 160 miles away. I wish I would have went with another brand.

Steven;

Welcome to TDR.

I know you wrote cab height, but want to add my 2¢ worth on extended height in case someone tried to convince you they are better than cab height.

I have a Range Rider extended height which is pretty comparable to the Raven extended height. I think the drawbacks to an extended height model out weigh the advantages. Extended height really limit garage access, drive thrus (the drive thru people would prefer if I don't come back though), car wash, etc. The fit is not as good either.

I had a Raven cab height on my S-10 and really liked the fit and quality.

My Range Rider hangs in the granary. I use an Access rollup tonneau cover. I'll use the topper for trips when I want the extra capacity

Truck cap; cap; topper; canopy; camper; camper shell; shell; etc.

How many other names for the same product?

I have a Leer and am pleased with it. After shopping all around I finally purchsed mine over the phone from a large RV place on the east side of IN on I-70. The price savings was huge compared to local dealers. I was in MD then. I drove through IN on my way to MN, picked up the cap and kept on trucking.

Good points to consider about taller caps have already been mentioned. If I were doing it again I would look at other Leer caps again. I would have also built the garage another foot taller as well. I had already built it 2 feet deeper. I generally try to stay our of parking garages and I quit doing drive thrus long ago.
