I have a 2003 2500 4x4 CTD with 78000 miles and the truck has been running great. Today i stopped at stop sign and the truck just died, I cranked it for a few secs and it restarted but then died again, waited about 30 seconds and cranked it over and it started and I continued home with no other issues , have gone out 2 more times and the truck starts right up and idles fine? Does this sound like the symptons of the fuel transfer pump starting to go or something else?

I had the same issue a few weeks back, i purchase a inline pump from JEGs, instructions are great. However i did not want to drill into the frame so i mounted the pump on the plastic fender well inside the engine compartment.

Sounds very similiar to what happened to my truck. My girlfriend was driving home and the truck "just died" coasted onto the shoulder. Fired up again for a moment and died, fired up again for a second or two and died. That was wensday night. Checked codes in the morning P0628 I think it was. My searching here on TDR pointed to lift pump. Called Pure Flow and had an AD 150 overnighted and installed it on friday. Truck fired right up and runs smooth. I had been thinking about this upgrade for a long time. Murphys Law has the stock pump take a dive with my girlfriend driving across the Richmond bridge at 10pm with me at home. I should have done this a long time ago.

I saw your string about codes and did the on/off 3 times the dash said done and then ------- no codes and then back to the mileage. But I am ordering the pump today anyway

Mine died on I-15 ,luckily when I was almost to the top of the Cajon Pass. I was able to coast off onto a ramp. It restarted at the bottom of the ramp and made it 100 yards to a station and that was it. Never started after that.

I have had the same on my 04. 5 with 40,000 mi. , code po628. Finally got it home with a dozen starts and short runs. Called Dodge who informed me it was covered under warenty, Chrysler free tow and $100. 00 deductable. It also happend to a friend of mine, same year, same mileage but they didn't charge him the $100. 00 deductable, Hmmmmm? Oh well.

Same here a few starts and short runs home finaly died 1 mile from home, Had friend tow home, Covered under warrenty with no 100. 00 ded.
