The last two mornings I fire up the truck and let him warm up a bit as usual. I'm headed slowly down the drive and them BAM!
, truck dies instantly with no warning. The first morning it happened shifting into first at the end of the steep drive getting onto the paved road. This morning it happened again [same place, coincidence?] but with a huge puff of white smoke out the exhaust. The rest of the day the truck seems to run fine. Got the P1693 code; which after a search just means I have another code in the ecm somewhere; and the MIL light is burning brigtly.
Anyway, I change the fuel filter, which was pretty dirty looking, then noticed the lift pump pressure was fairly steady, but would hover around 7psi on shut down instead of dropping right to 0 like usual [it does it while priming the pump before start up as well]. The pressure has also been a little bit lower, and easier to pull down lately; but no erratic, jumpy needle readings like some say with an LP going south. So, I figure it was just the filter a little dirty.
Ok. So, will a dirty filter or an LP going bad cause a code? If not, where else should I look. I know, I need to get the code read too. I'll head to Auto Zone tomorrow for that.
