I had a reman pump put on about 30,000 miles ago and check my lift pump pressure regularly. I have been through about 5 lift pumps in the 110,000 miles on my truck. My most recent lift pump only had about 10,000 miles on it and the other day after a 60 mile trip I pulled off onto another highway and the truck started stumbling and missing on about 3 cylcinders. It was able to keep up 40 mph for a mile or so until I got to a place to stop. It was blowing out alot of bluish white smoke when this happened. I called for a ride back home and got another lift pump that I had at home and put it on the following day. The truck seemed to run fine and I got it back home and drove it on another 50-60 mile trip that evening. My new lift pump seems to be running fine and providing about 12 psi at idle but I am noticing that the truck when idling seems to miss slightly and the tach isn't very stable it kinda drops down lower than usual and acts kinda jumpy. For quite some time I have been having a slight miss and a strange problem with the engine timing changing but now the miss is about twice as bad. Does this sound like I should bite the bullit and get a new high pressure pump? I do alot of driving 50-60 miles from home and don't want this thing to leave me stranded on a desolate highway or in the middle of a busy 4 lane highway. All my previous lift pumps, except for one, went bad with no ill effects on how the truck ran. The only exception was the one that went out and the truck wouldn't run, then two days later the VP44 went out and the truck wouldn't start.

I have replaced all the sensors and even the ECM not too long ago fighting the slight miss. This time when the tach is jumping though you can hear the engine changing speed.

No nothing like that. I am going to take a TDR members advice and put a relay on my relocated lift pump and see if that helps.
