I went though the car wash today and after driving down the road about 1/2 mile the engine, radio, gauges, and windshield wipers quit. The lights and heater fan still operate. Any suggestions on what may have shorted out? My truck is a '93 3/4 ton 4x4 manual.

I had my truck just completely die while going thru an intersection one night. I found out that there is a lead that goes from your positive battery post to your trucks brain(tec term). That brain is in behind your battery in your fender. My connection had come loose and when the brain shut down so did every thing else. I cleaned the connection and every thing came back. Hope this helps.

Hi, Just got my truck back on the road today. If you had a fusible link blow, your problem is probably behind the throttle linkage plate, either the wires going to the fuel heater chaffed thru or possibly the wire going to the shut off solenoid. Mine was the fuel heater wires. The shut off solenoid was a problem somebody else had e-mailed me about, but got me in the area. The fusible link is going to be on the driver's side fender. There should be a triangular black piece that has a bunch of fusible links coming off it. It is going to be the orange wire closest to the engine. Hope this helps.

Thanks motorheadmic,
It seems my fuel heater itself is grounding out my system. I took the plug off and rewired the fuseable link. Everything is back to normal and the truck runs fine. Is changing the fuel heater a job left to the shop or can a guy do by himself? Thanks again.

Mike
