This is an update to my previous post - Truck Dies.
Well it has been a month since they installed the new high pressure fuel pump. So far everything is working great and I haven't had any other problems. I had to wait two weeks for the pump but it was worth it.
So far it seems to have fixed the following problems:
- Dieing and stalling
- The 25-50Rpm surging at idle. What some are refering as idle lope. This was magnified if you ran the truck at 1000rpm to a surge of +/- 100Rpm.
- Sudden acceleration to over 1000Rpm
-The loud diesel knock/clatter that came and went. This seemed louder than 2nd Gen trucks.
- And an added bonus is that the overhead console is more accurate than before. I really don't think the pump had anything to do with this but they did flash the computer while they had it.
The issue with the fuel pump was just a sensor giving out false information. The sensor is inside the pump and non-servicable.
BTW, this one was very difficult to troubleshoot. There are no error codes set. Even with the tech scan tool hooked to the truck and the truck acting up. I watched the scan tool diagnose the truck as fine when is was idleing erratically on its own. Going from 500Rpm - ~1050Rpm and clattering/knocking like something awfull. I belive that they finally had to put a manual gage on the HP fuel side to help diagnose it.
It took over 4 months and several trips to the dealer to get this troubleshot / diagnosed / and fixed. I hope that the info that I gave in this and the other post will help keep others for going through the hoops that I had to go through.
