Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) truck does'nt make as much boost.

1998. 5 3500 dually dd3 edge drag ats conv- boost-trans-egt-fuel pressure gauges fass fuel I had problems with edge drag &comp I ran a14. 61 with drag box only turned up to 5&3 on smoke the truck would make 45 lb of boost all the turned up truck ran 16. 5 so sent box back and they sent me a new one free warr- I put knew box on turned it all the way up 45lb then i didn't use it for a couple of months turned it on all the way up boost only 36lb truck used to pull hard it felt like the dash was going to break know its a slug as to the 45lb please help

With that stock turbo you are in a sense "Overfueling" (In a bad way) the engine. That is why when you turned up the box the truck ran a slower time. NOT ENOUGH AIR. Basicly adding more fuel than what could possibly be burned and are putting the fire out with it. All you are doing is creating Heat ... that's it. That 45lbs of boost is nothing but heat. The stock hx35 is so far off it's map it cannot supply an efficient air charge and that is why you don't see any real thrill when on 5X5.

yes toolman that makes good sense but the truck only makes 35/36 lbs know do you think it due to winter air or winter fuel or both I personally have never heard 45lb boost unles the truck has twins

Back when I had DDIII's and the Blue chip and a PDR 35 I could make 51lbs of boost and it lowered off to a max 46. It would spike that high from the initial fuel dump and once the cylinders were "flooded" with soot and fuel and hardly any air you would quite litterally feel it fall flat on it's face. Now once the HX40 went on she pulled much harder with a max of 42 lbs and drop to about 38. Now with the EDM's I am back to overfueling and keep my box set @ 40% rather than 63% to go fast.

There was a good thread a while ago about boost pressure. Just because you have a lot of it doesn't mean you make more power. I can't explain it well, but good air is better than boost. A stock turbo just can't provide enough air. A HTB2 at 38 pounds is going to provide more "good" air than a stock turbo cranked out at 38 psi. My suggestion is get a new turbo before the one you have explodes. I'm sure someone else can explain it better than this.
