Help, Please.

Ok here is the deal. truck started vibrating in 5th at highway speeds light to no throttle, cold trany squeek until the end of the street. pulled it 5th gear ate in to the smooth part of the shaft just like quad 4x4 pics. couldn't aford there kit but did buy some small parts and tools from them. transmission seems to be fixed, I am primarily a gas motor mechanic but can go through a trans if I have to. ended up at 3. 5 thou of end play, should be ok.

now the "new" problem. decided to have the clutch rebuilt by the same guy that built it last time. Asheville Cluth and Brake, love his work I have put in many of his cluthes from toyotas to 5 ton military trucks, never had a problem. I have been making 30+ pounds of boost for about half of the two years and 65,000 miles I have put on the truck. the clutch had 65 thou of wear and looked grooved, but it held. every once in a while on a cold day it seemed to slip just a littlein the morning untill everything warmed up. Now it won't hold 8 lbs of boost. the clutch guy says that I make to much power. ck profile for minor mods, i am not making that much power. I had ten carbon metalic plus shaped pucks on it and now he wants to go cerametalic with ten pucks on the pressure plate side and go with a wider friction surface on the pressure plate. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have spent my allowance and need truck back on the road.

thanks in advance

Sounds like a stock clutch should hold that much power. At least for a while. I make 36psi and the stock clutch barely slips.

maybe he sold you a defective clutch????

didn't want to leave this without a soution for the problem.

when i have questions i often go speak to the local diesel instructor at the local community college, he's a ctd fan to and has a few in his family. his thoughts on the boost being so low compared to the power output was that you are already puting the fuel in and the turbo lags behind just a little of the boost required. In looking at the clutch after removing it, it was only riding on the high spots and probably should of just been driven and would of been ok. but instead i upgraded to cerametalic on the pressure plate side and a pressure plate for a 97 or 98 and up with a 5spd. the friction serface is just a little wider providing more contact area, and I think the clutch hub is smaller to. I decided this clutch was it so i just broke it in and drove it. slipped once jusst a little instead of letting up i just held it, maybe a second and then bam it caught and has never slipped sence.
