Archived Truck drivetrain backlashing

I need help. My truck is making a loud clanking noise, it started this morning

very faint then on my way home this afternoon it got louder. This morning it the clank was only noticeable in fith gear now all the gears do it. Just before I got home, it almost felt like it was skipping teeth. My friend and I crawled

under it and we think the noise is coming from the trans. not the transfercase. We stuck it in gear and moved it back and forth and it almost sounds like its skipping gears in the trans. What are the odds of that happening or is it even possible? I actually drove it 54 mi but, it only backlashes when let off the throttle and get back on it. This is way past its

normal backlashing level.



I hope I posted this thread in the right area, is so please help.

I had this same thing happen to me after I did the nv 4500 swap. In my case it was the clip on the output shaft of the transfer case, it broke in two letting the shaft move . replaced the clip never happened again. hope this helps.
