Truck stalled on me twice, and is hard starting. Now when it does start, it ran for about 10 seconds then it would die. What does this sound like to you guys? Its an 04. 5 CTD with about 23k miles on it. I'm thinking its either a leaking injector, causing fuel to flood the engine and stop it from running, or its the lift pump. The truck got towed to the dealer, and the service dept was closed when I got there, so I had to use thier night drop. I will know more tommorow, but, at least its covered under warranty.

This blows. . Im grateful to be using my dads 04 dakota 4. 7 5 spd, but its still not a cummins.

I agree with your assessment that it's either the LP or an injection problem. I'd lean toward the LP. Please let us know what happens!!

Scott, change your fuel filter lately? That would suck if thats all it is and you had it towed into the DEALER, (we all know what rhymes with dealer now, don't we?) :-laf

Fuel filter was just changed 3k miles ago... So Im pretty certain its not that... :) That would suck if that was the problem though.

If LP I guess they will install the new in tank one. Is this correct on all the 3rd gens now. Hopefully something not to serious.

That's right, now for the 2nd and 3rd gen trucks they go in the tank. So now when your lift pump dies in the middle of nowhere you wont be able to slap your spare on and drive away

Well, verdict was that the lift pump went. 23k miles and its gone. I got the truck back today though, and also had them do the mileageflash. I got the in tank pump update, and the cummins tech at my dealership told me that the in tank pumps are supposed to be 100 times more reliable thn the older style. The truck has more power now than it ever had since the day I bought it, with quite a bit more low end grunt. . Im wondering if I had a failing lift pump from day 1?

Glad to see they were able to fix it so quick !! My dealer would need a week to TRY to figure out what went wrong ! :(

You think thats good. . see my other thread, regarding thumbs up to the dealership, and see what else they did for me :D

Moss Bros Dodge in San Bernardino is one awesome dealership! 5 star no doubt abotu it!

Also glad to hear it worked out for you. I do hope they are right about the new in tank pumps being more reliable. It does seem that being inside the tank pushing fuel and submerged in fuel would keep it cooler, would be a plus for longer lasting pumps. JMO

Also sometimes if you have a in tank pump that appears to fail, you can take a hammer and tap on the bottom of the tank and a lot of times it will get the pump started up again for start up. At least maybe get you somewhere where can replace it yourself or have it replaced. I know it works on the gassers at times so I figure the diesels should not be that much different. JMO
