Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Truck has a few codes

Checked for codes on the truck today... its a habit. Any way I got p1693 and p0500. Not too sure as to what they mean. The truck seems to be running good.



I remember a few months back a guy had these same codes and some one said its the sequence of codes you get when you spin the back tires... (burn out). Anyways if some one who knows about this more than me could chime in I would appreciate it. THanks for the help in advance.

1693 is just a companion code which says there has been a code set in another computer. 0500 no speed sensor siginal.

so i guess its nothing important then? do i need a new sensor or something?

You can get an 0500 if you've idled at a higher rpm than stock for a while, such as when warming up the engine on a cold morning.

Say what!! How would idling the engine set this code? The only time I have been able to set this code is in poor weather (slippery conditions) while spinning the tires. The 0500 code is tied to the rear diff speed sensor, I don't see how high idle would affect it. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I got the 0500 code just after starting my truck on a cold damp morning on the coast of Ca. I shut the truck off and started it back up it ran ok. I left it alone and by the time I got home the check engine light was out and code gone. The trip home was about 4. 5 hours pulling a fifth wheel with several shut downs and restarts. Exactly what I was doing when I got the code was this. I started the truck and backed under the fifth wheel. The truck died. I turned the key off and then did the internal code read. It came up with the 0500 but then started back up again and ran fine the rest of the day and still is. This was about two years ago.

So I guess its just the truck trying to be smarter than we are. Doesn't seem to be a big deal. Could my sensor be going bad or do you think it is just from spinning the tires?

first and only question is have you spun the tires recently? P0500 is almost always related to the amount of tire spinage you've experienced recently.
