I'm posting for a friend that has a 01' with an Edge Pulse 100hp box and has recently installed a Holley fuel pump. His story is that he started the truck and wouldn't rev above 1000rpm. Then when he started driving and the truck was blowing alot of black smoke and then started blowing alot of white smoke. He also said the truck is sputtering. He said the check engine light HAS NOT came on either. I didn't know what to tell him besides to check all his connections and that it could be the injection pump. What do you guys think this could be? I know the white smoke means something but I couldn't remember what it was. Any replys will be appreciated.

He doesn't have a boost gauge, but says that he can't get it above a 1000rpms. I'll tell him to take the box off and see what happens. I mentioned the water in the fuel possibility but he said the last time he filled up it was at the same station that he always does. If there was water in the fuel wouldn't the light come on telling you so?

Actually as I think about it, I would suspect his Holly fuel pump has failed or is weak - this results in black smoke at take-off since at lower speeds, the stock VP-44 internal pump can supply fuel in spite of the external pump failure - and thus the smoke - but as engine speed and power demand increases, the LACK of fuel supply causes the white smoke, loss of power and RPM - sure, a bad VP-44 can do all that by itself as well, but I'd check for proper fuel delivery TO the VP-44 first...

There Dsherman - didn't wanna dissappoint ya! ;) :D :p

Thanks for the replys. We ran a diagnosis test and found out that the VP-44 is going bad. Then we took the Holley pump off and the truck is running good. He claims that the pump was pushing too much fuel thru the truck and his stock injectors couldn't handle it. I disagreed, but could this be true?
