had the battery cable to starter burn off under rubber boot on the starter. I replaced cable, but truck is acting up and has started to through codes p01693 & p0237 & p0382 and now the low pressure fuel light is blinking on and off when driving and sometimes the fuel pump quits and starts when it wants to also barely has any power at times.

The cause of the terminal burning off was probably either a loose nut on the stud where the cable connects or an arcing contact inside the starter solenoid. I have seen both happen on equipment. Electrical problems can often be traced back to bad/loose grounds. Check ALL your ground wire connections, especially the main ones at the batteries. Clean where they connect to the chassis/engine block and make sure they are snug. There are also ground straps under the dash and around the firewall.

Of all the Cummins engines, I am least familiar with the VP pump units, but your symptoms sound like a failing fuel transfer pump and injector pump. It could also be a problem with your ECM.

The intake air heater circuit is nothing. I have not had air intake heaters hooked up on any of my trucks in years. To avoid the code on my '03, I disconnected the power to the relays at the fusible links at the battery. Have never used intake heaters on it since I bought it new and disconnected them on my '96 in '97 after reading about the huge amp draw they cause on the electrical system. It now has around 210,000 miles. I see no need for grid heaters here in Georgia anyway. The code will not be a "limp home" code and will not activate a check engine light. I believe a MAP sensor error will set a CEL.

Could it be that a loose connection cause arcing/bad electrical flow in the system that in turn damaged other electrical parts? I had this happen on my Harley years ago. The battery became damaged enough so as to not accept a charge, but the charging system was still putting out. The power had to go somewhere and fried most of the charging system. It was fixed, but for a price. Perhaps you had some stray voltage kick back into the voltage regulator or ecm. Or maybe the regulator has just given up on its own and caused all the electrical problems. Unfortunately, I believe it's integral with the alternator, which means you have to spring for a new one. Get it bench tested at a shop or auto parts store. Good luck

truck dying?

For electrical connections that maybe iffy? Get a digital multimeter that is in your price range so that you can measure across a connection or the cable to see what the resistance is. When I measured most of mine they were in the 0. 003 ohms range which is good. Hope that your truck is back to normal soon.

I put in MAP sensor and the only code I get is 1693 which says there is a problem with the tachometer circuit. but my tach reads OK. I have checked all of the connections to ECM and PCM and sensors with a meter and haven't found any broken wires or bad terminals the connections look like new. I have the dodge service manuals and haven't found any information on this code yet.

Read up on the map in service man. then check for voltages & res on the wires coming from map at computer to see if they are what they should be .

I would like to thank everyone for your help. Talk about things happening in 3's the map sensor took a crap and then the fuel filter got a dose of BAD fuel and the lift pump decided to only work when it felt like it. (can't whine too much the pump had over 100. 000 on it) after fixing all 3 things the truck is running fine. codes are cleared and I'm happy once again.
