Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) truck just goes to idle vp or tps

have a 99 ctd and occasionally i get a dead pedal and the truck just goes to idle. Prior to the dead pedal sometimes the rpm's surge a little bit. Also 65 and above the bed shakes real bad . Please give me some ideas. have a friend at uti in chicago and his instructor says something about an idle switch in tps , but scheid says its either a vp or a tps so let me know

get it scaned, even if there is no check engine light and see if there are codes.

could be either one. and both are expensive enough not to just start throwing parts at it.



FWIW, when my apps died it did exactly that and i had a p0121 code. CEL did light up.



But, I've heard of vp's dying like that too.

attn: oil burner or anyone with same problem Did you fix the apps or end up fixing both apps and vp because i got it scanned this morning and the p 0122 and the p0121

I had the identical problem and the dealer replaced it under warrenty..... It had only 10K when it went south..... No problems since ... ... Jeremy

I only replaced the APPS. It's been about 10k miles and never had the problems again. FWIW, I got the same P0121 code.
