Archived Truck looses power-MPG

2001 4x4 Auto with EZ chip. 92000 miles (97% freeway) All of a sudden MPG when towing 10,000 pounds went from 12 to 5 (not a typo, I said 5)! Sometimes cruising down the road the engine will just go flat, let off pedal and get back into it it will be fine for another 40 to 50 miles and then it happens again. I need this truck for work. Any help is greatful. Thanks

If you still have fuel pressure, then I'd suspect the APPS-accelerator pedal position sensor, or something electrical.

Did you replace your fuel filter?

Trying the APPS reprogram tonight. Should have a chance to check fuel pressure and change the filter tommorrow. Any more help would be great. Thanks for the info so far.



I suspect the lift pump myself from what I can tell but knowledge is power and the more I know the less I will have to question.



P. S. There is also a P0216 code (Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure).

am i reading this right--you don't have a fuel pressure guage in the truck?!?!?!?!!!!!!---your next mod better be this with an EGT guage also if you don't have that either--hope it's just a lift pump--that other code is for the VP44, but it can be triggered by a bad lift pump, but it doesn't mean the VP44 isn't bad either---hopefully it's just that lift pump---call me tomorrow---415-713-9434----chris

I've done 100s of these problems at work. To find out. pull off the rubber supply hose into a container. Tapp the starter leave key on. Transfer pump sould flow 40ozs or better 48oz nonimal. If thats ok. Your injection pump module is laying down. Its time for injection pump. You probably have a stored pcode 0216. That doesn't kick on engine light in many cases.

Problem sloved... at least for my buddy. Turns out he called me today and used this little excuse to trade it in on a new 600!!!
