My 2006 4x4 has been acting up lately when in reverse. It lurches badly unless you rev the engine really high. Manual transmission. Clutch is in good shape. Had it out recently, long story there. No problems in forward gears and no noises that either my wife or myself can hear. Any idea's?

Do this loaded or unloaded? How high do you have to rev it to stop the lurching? Stock clutch?

It does it both loaded and unloaded. Worse when loaded. Southbend dual mass clutch. I'm away from home right now, but will ask the wife about the rpms. I never looked before. It wasn't too bad, but now is getting worse.

Facebook is wonderful for keeping in touch. Just asked her about it and she said she has to rev up to about 2K and work the clutch a couple of times. iasked her to log on and tell what it's doing instead of relaying through me.

Well, she says it's a guy thing in here. :-laf Would rather I deal with it. Funny seeing as how I'm actually signed in under her registration. She has the actual membership. Anyway, she says that's all she knows to tell about it. .

Forward or Return doesn't affect the way the clutch acts, if the clutch has a problem you would have it in all gears.

I fully agree with you there and do not suspect the clutch. I wonder if it could have anything to do with the ABS system or some other part of the braking system. Unfortunately, I'm 10,000 miles away from the truck right now. hard to go see right now. Just trying to get some ideas where to start.

Will the Engine die if you don't rev it? Maybe something with the parkbrake shoes, could! be a source for this problem.

Have someone check the motor mounts. If you had them out when you changed the clutch maybe one of the bolts vibrated out. The motor twists in the frame the opposite way in reverse from forward motion.

Motor mounts have never been out. The truck only has 120k miles on it. Started all this after installing the second Southbend clutch. First one was improperly installed by a less than reliable shop/person (if I had only known). I still don't believe it has anything to do with the clutch, No problems at all in forward gears. The truck idles at around 600rpm. Hasn't died yet, but I haven't given it the chance.

It sounds a little like there may be a problem with the hydraulic clutch. I don't have a standard any more, but a friend in Florida put the South Bend system in and solved the same problem.

Did he solve the problem by putting in the Southbend or solve the problem caused by it?

Problem turned up several thousand miles after new SB clutch installed - - solved the problem installing a complete new hydraulic clutch system - - I believe that was purchased from SB.

The truck idles at around 600rpm.

Either your tach is goofed up or you have another problem. Idle should be 750-800, no lower. If it is the engine idling that low that would cause issues with the clutch doing that, not enough rpm for it to run correctly. However, since it is an 06 it is probably a cluster problem.

I think the upgraded SB clutch system might be your best bet at this point.
