i was cruising down the freeway at 70 mph when my truck made a bang and the check engine light came on. the truck started coasting and it wouldnt respond to any throttle, so i put the truck in neutral and then the truck would rev when i pressed the throttle so i put it back in gear and everything seemed good except it wouldnt shift into overdrive for about 15 min. then it shifted and it seems to be running ok but the check engine light is still on.

the trans has been shifting kinda strange the last few weeks and it shudders sometimes when its in o. d. and going up a hill. it also acted the same last sept. so i took it to the dealer and they flashed the comp. and it did help some but towing my car trailer it still shuddered some. im thinking the trans is getting ready to go. i have an ext. warranty so maybe if it is the trans. i'll get a new one out of it.

any ideas??

TIA

Sounds like you might have lost the overdrive lockup clutch. Better have the truck connected to a ScanTool to find out what code is in there. Since it is a 99 you can't do it on the dash.

well took it to the dealer, it spent 3 days there :-{} 7 codes came up, they werent sure what some of them were!!

they had a sr. service tech working on it, they finally came to the conclusion that the valve body is bad.

so i say to the service mgr. "if the valve body is bad what about the rest of the trans. ?

mgr: well we dont know

me: ok was there any metal in the trans pan?

mgr: well we dont know

me: did your sr. tech remove the pan?

mgr: i dont think so

me: so you came to the conclusion the valve body is shot but you dont know about the rest of the trans?

mgr: thats right

me: so you're going to put a $1000 part in the trans and then when the trans does finally go you will have to put a whole new trans in the truck?

mgr: yeap, we dont know how long it will last

me: i guess i dont understand the logic behind this, why not fix it right the first time and be done with it?

mgr: chrysler wont allow us to just put a new unit in without first trying just the valve body.

me: ok so when are you going to do this

mgr: well thats the problem, the part is on a nationwide back order, so we dont know

me: ok im going to take my truck now, is it safe to drive?

mgr: well the trans can go anytime

me: what if i need to pull a trailer

mgr: oh no dont do that!!!!

there was more but my two finger typing is slow going and its getting late.

so i now have my truck back, the trans can go anytime, im being easy on it though :-laf i wish the trans would just go out then they can replace the whole thing.

i have a $200 ded. per incident so im guessing they are hoping they will replace the valve body, ill pay my ded. then a month later the trans will go and ill have to pay another $200 ded. so they get $400 out of me on top of what i already paid for the warranty.

any ideas on how to wipe a trans quick???? :D

oh man cant wait to do the same. hook it to the heaviest thing possible and stomp it in 4 low, lol. full throtle starts. powerbrake launches. maybe neutral drop it a couple times. that should do the job. but if they never disasembles anything to diagnose than they should not be replacing parts anyway. the pan should have come off to inspect for clutch material and I would have not accepted any answer but that. I really hate chrysler and their methods. I cant wait to bring mine on for a trans :) it allready needs to go in fora turbo

yea put in reverse and floor it and then shove it in drive--don't let up on the pedal---you can also just throw it into park from reverse or drive once in awhile at full throttle--that should do it--wear your seat belt---chris
