2006 Chevy 2500HD Cummins Swap

Hello All, My name is Greg Stein and i am 15 years old and I was just wondering if there was anyone in the El Dorado Hills, CA area that might be working on repairs or maintenance on their truck that i might be able to assist you. I dont have my drivers permit yet , but when i get my driver License I want to purchase a 1 Generation or 2nd Generation 24 Valve Cummins Turbo Diesel. So if there is any one in the area who might be working on a project or who is willing to teach me more about Cummins Turbo Diesel I would be very appreciative. I am also currently working on a 1981 Jeep Scrambler with my neighbor that we are almost finished with repairing.

Hi Greg, good luck in your quest. Do you want to become a Mechanic? Or is it just a hobby? I am on the wrong side of the US to help you, but I sure hope you get your truck someday. We need some young bucks around here. IMHO, rolling coal beats trying drift sideways on purpose any day!

It's excellent to see your interest Greg and good for you for reaching out to this community. I have family out in your area and have spent quite a bit of time in Folsom, Cameron Park, and Sacramento. I know that there is at least one TDR member in Cameron Park. Maybe he will chime in here at some point with some contacts for you.

When I was out there last summer, I stayed at the Residence Inn in Folsom and attended a really nice car show at a shopping plaza near there. There were a couple of very nice Cummins trucks there at the time. Maybe you could get some info there. If I remember correctly, it was the plaza down the street from where the Whole Foods store is located. Closer to the Wal-Mart.

Yes, i want to be a diesel mechanic, im thinking about going to the Army, or a 2 year technical school in my area.
Rolling coal is much more fun. I want to straigh pipe my first diesel, depending on what california laws say, but I've acually seen a couple W250's in my area with smoke stacks and rolling coal:-laf

No, I don't mind the heat at all. It is such a beautiful area. One of my favorite drives anywhere is Rt. 50 in to Tahoe from Sacramento.

Greg, there are a lot of military guys here on the TDR! I am not one of them. I am however a mechanic who's been at it for 30 years. I started at your age. I urge you to make a post right here in the "other" forum about mil advice and the branches. If I had to send someone in to learn a mechanical trade, it would likely be Navy. For right now, please stay in school and keep at it. Build your tools, learn how to use 'em.
