Well, I was right. Dealer looked at the truck today and it needs a new Tailshaft seal for the G-56 which they have in Stock. However, DC says that a new FLange ( Whatever that is. . LOLOL) HAS to be replaced with it... Parts have to come from Back east so looks like middle of Next week for the repair.

Question is, how long will it take them to replace these parts once they have them??? Dealer says truck is good to drive until then. I have an 800 mile trip to Utah coming up this weekend. . thanks!!

Sounds like the dealer is trying to get you to spend a little extra unnecessary money on a unnecessary part. I am very sure you can use the same companion flange unless the seal ate a groove into the original one so bad it won't seal again.

I say BS on the new flange and just have them change out the seal only. Save your money on the flange and don't let them talk you into it.

Well, I bet it's necessary because it's a warranty issue :) I'm not paying a dime for any of it. . truck only has 3,000 miles on it. They said they had seen a few come through exactly the same and they just replaced the seal. DC says to install a new flange now as part of a kit. SInce I am not paying for a dime then it must need it. . they have really good Diesel Mechanic where I take my truck too! :) THanks for the input!

If your trans was built before April 27, 2006 you need the new flange. If built after you only need the seal. It says this is for weepage, so if that is the case you should have no problem driving it until the repair. The flange PN is 05142860AB.
