For those that have done this already, what do you recommend doing to pass? My signature at the bottom is accurate.

I do have the blow by tube & bottle. The turbo will look stock though I have the AFE air filter. I can easily remove the Edge but bypassing the map sensor will cause my boost to go high and alarm.

Any help is appreciated.

My CA Smog was just a visual inspection

I was a bit leary taking mine in for the first time since CA started requiring smog check. I had heard that the check right now is mostly just a visual inspection. They reference what should be on the truck stock for your model year... especially cat, or no cat, etc... plus look for mods like "plug-n-play" boxes... and that was about it. No check at the tail pipe at all from what I could tell by watching, plus my quizzing of the tech afterwards. I did remove my Edge ahead of time... can't confirm or deny if it made it's way back.

Good luck and please report back with your smog experience.

smog

No problem, I asked the tec what was he looking for? He said he looked for engine lights, black smoke, and parts that was not calif approved (?). He had no problem with my 4" exhaust or my BHAF, I had turned my SMARTY off , however it would not have mattered he never wired up to the truck. It was no big deal. . Charlie

Wish me luck, I'm going to go get tested tomorrow. I was able to lookup the Carb EO number for the AFE air filter so I won't remove that. I will pull the Edge Comp right before I turn the corner into the smog station.

Thanks for your guidance here.

Truck passed with no issues - there's no emissions test at this time. It's strictly a visual inspection and an ODB check.

Make sure that you have the EO's for things like air filters or exhaust with you and remove any "chips". Also, make sure that you don't have your MIL lamp on and you should be good.

Thats great to hear. I have to take mine in as well but now after this weekend it will have to wait sence I have Check engine light. Glad to hear it was fast and smooth.

Not quite accurate... ... ... there is supposed to be a snap idle test with visual smoke ck

Basically all the Tech does is a visual for "Non stock" power add ons like an Edge box, Etc. and an exhaust smoke check. But, I have lived and worked in Ca all of my life. A required smog check on my 01 was the last straw! Ca has taxed us to death as it is. Now they want to smog my diesel!

I own a house in Arizona so my truck has AZ plates on it now. But, all of Arizona is not exempt from smog checks. Areas like Phoenix and Tucson require smog checks.

Don't know what to tell you but I watched them like a hawk - They only reved the engine once and that was at the very beginning. By the time they did any walking around my truck it was about a minute later.

Be sure and have an AZ license to match match the plates or the officer will ask questions.

If Ca doesn't "extend" the tax increase we currently enjoy, our weight fees go down 50%. Kind of a break.

I am in the military and have my truck registered in Minnesota and have a Minnesota license. Minnesota stopped doing smog checks a long time ago because it was costing the state to much to keep track of the records of who passed, failed, or was due. Maybe California should apply that kind of logic. The only problem I think they might have is I put on a Magnaflow Turbo Back Exhaust System and it removed the Cat. So I don't know if either state will throw a fit about that, hope they don't, that would suck to have to find and install a CAT back onto my truck.

Kalifornia will definetly throw a fit about that#@$%! Your 01' shouldn't have had a cat on it. They came with a resonator and a muffler, at least mine did.

If you have current Mn plates, I dont think you have to worry about the Cal smog checks. Otherwise, they wouldn't let any cars from states with weaker emission standards cross the state line

You will have a problem if the base makes you redo your smog cert in California. If you already have base access and they don't require you to smog again you should be fine.

If it the testing ever comes my way plan on turning the smarty to SW#0. It runs at half power. Half power should = half the emissions.
