Well, did my usual gouge-on-it Sunday nite at the straight away by the house and it launched and then just popped and quit. Coasted to a stop, tryed to restart. Sounds like it's just trying to run on 1 or 2 cylinders and light backfiring through the stacks. Guess I'll check the timing first. Hope its nothing major. New motor only has about 25k on it.

Well just got ready to get the truck going and it is not the timing. The timing gear is rotating fine, the valve train is not working. Could the gear on the cam have slipped. Pulled #1 and #2 valve covers and no movement at all on the valve train. Guess I'll have to pull the front cover and seee what's going on. ???????????????????? Any ideas?

Were the pushrods bent? Couldn't be a broken cam if 1-2 aren't moving but others are. Pop all the valve covers and see which cylinders are still getting rocker movement, and check for bent pushrods.

have you tore into it yet to see what is wrong i really hope for your sake it is not what i mentioned it could get expensive then

Well tore into the front cover today and the cam gear was broken out in the center. Someone welded the cam gear on when I had the engine built. After careful inspection the key was folded back and the gear was not pressed on all the way, therefore they welded it. I'll try and post some pictures later. I called the "nationally renowned" shop where the motor was built and they are closed til Monday. I'm really chapped. I spent a lot of hard earned money to put this motor in and expected it to last more than 20k+ miles. Yeah, I know, hp is expensive, but to not take the time and effort to pull the gear back off and install it properly is ridiculous. The original "warranty" was 12 months or 12k miles and I have well exceeded that. I just hope the shop will step up and remedy a gross error.

Sorry for the rant, that is just not the way to build motors.

I am sorry to here about that i wish you good luck with the "nationally renowned" shop, hope that they will step up and admit to their mistake and get it fixed.

Just heard from Clint @ ATS and he is going to send me a cam and gear. The motor was put together by ATS and he really stood up and backed what they built. Thanks to Clint for standing behind what goes out the door.

Well after 2 months finally got a cam and gear. Had alot of trouble running the overhead and found when the pushrods bent they broke the top edges of some of the lifters. What is the standard procedure for changing out lifters?? Looks like a pita since they install from the bottom.
