yesterday while stuck in traffic temp was about 80 I was sitting in gridlock (well almost) because some retard plowed a police car on I-30 in garland texas my temp guage showed around 230-240 no a/c on what gives, this has never happened before and the truck only has 20k on it. Any similar experiences?

In hot weather do you hear the fan roar when you take off from a stop and then quiet down once you're up and running? If not, make sure it's plugged in under the radiator. It's controlled by the PCM. If it's plugged in and not working, time to see the dealer.

This may be a little off topic but I think I may have discovered a simple way to cool the engine down to normal temps after a pull.

I was in the local mtns with cabover camper pulling 3 four wheelers. The temp gauge was showing just above 200 when we stopped for lunch. Well I idled for 5 mins or so, temps did not drop much. Anyway, after we ate, we pressed on up hill. We are on dirt roads running 20-25mph and get to the campsite and the temp is above 200 again, so I idle down. I notice the fan is not making the intense roar is does with the A/C on, so just for grins I turned the A/C on, and within a minute the temp is down to 190! Did turning the A/C on forced the fan to fully engage which cooled the engine much faster? Kind of back-wards thinking.

I was towing last Friday (not real heavy) but charging up a grade my temps rose to 1 needle width past 200 (about 205F). It was right at 100 degrees in central Wash. State & I had the A/C on. This is the first time I towed any distance with my truck and I was thinking maybe I shouldn't get on it like this running A/C. At 70mph I couldn't tell if the fan was engaging but at 205F I don't think it's anything to be concerned with and obviously things are going to get warm if you work it hard on a hot day. Within a couple miles of cresting a grade it dropped to a smidge under 200 and stayed there.

It's not any concern now since it plummeted to the low '70s today and everyone is breaking out the sweatshirts & jackets . . .
