Tell me what you guys think of this. Last year I go to Moab to go jeeping and tow the jeep and trailer which total 5500# it was in may. Temp guage never climbed at all even going up hills with the pyro pegged out at 1200*. This year the only thing that was different was piers new turbo and a new trailer that weighed 500# more. Even when I was on the slightest incline with the pyro running maybe 1100* the temp would climb. Not overheat. Just climb like if I had kept going it would have overheated. It did at one point get up to about an 1/8 inch within the last bar before the H. I know it was toasty not enough to boil over or anything just hotter than it had been and hotter than I want to see it. I did put a new fan clutch and a new cummins t-stat with no results. The truck did sit for 10months while I was gone the radiator was pulled and tested right after last years trip but I suppose stuff could have grown in there while I was gone. Do you think that for my weight and trying to drive 75 is just to much for the stock cooling system or do you think that something is up? Thanx

I had the same problem towing my 84 3/4 ton chevy up to oregon from Vegas. I was thinking that it may be the transmission cooler by the radiator making the radiator hot and heating up the temp. gauge. If i'm wrong could someone jump in here. I don't have an aftermarket transmission cooler but i was gonna get one and then see if it would do the same thing. Any input would help me out. My truck and trailer weighed about 14,500. The other thing i was gonna do is put a new belt on it too. Maybe someone could throw in there . 2 here.

I replaced a water pump on my 90, when it went bad. I figured that since I had it that far down, I'd change the thermostat too. I remember a paper that came with the thermostat saying that it needed to orient a certain way in the hole. I can't remember why.

Not paying much attention to it I put it in the way I thought it should be. First time I went up a hill in hot weather, the temp gauge climbed like you described. I got so worried that I rolled the windows down and put the heater on full blast. That kept it in check.

Got to the top and checked the coolant level and it was OK. I remembered the paper from the new thermostat and wondered if that really had made a difference. Before the summer was out, the rearend of that truck turned into steel salad. I couldn't get another 3. 07 so I got a different truck. Never did check the poition of the thermo.

To hot for me

Dfeland, Chech out Runs to hot for me in previous threads. I just picked up a93 d350 auot 3. 54s . Have had the same problems I've changed everything ,fan clutch, fan, thermostat, belt ,rad cap, rodded out rad, new fluid 50/50 mix still no change . I pull 1000 gal water trailer about 7 miles and get same thing as you . If you find the problem please let me know

I"ve heard good things about a product from Cummins called "Restore".....

It comes in two formula's... . One focuses mainly on the radiator internals, cleaning and reversing deposits/oxidation etc and helps "a bit" with engine block deposits.

The second product (same name) works just the opposite. It has it's most pronounced effect on the iron block, its deposits, corrosion and scale.

In both cases you need to drain the coolant system, fill with clean water, and add a gallon (?) of this stuff... . then get out, run her hard and get her hot... .

Shut down, let cool, and drain off, flush with clean water and refill with your 50/50 coolant mix.

My brother says it worked well for him and he's just flat out 'anal' about this stuff.
