2001 Ram 2500 CTD, 3. 54, 133k, Edge EZ installed at 95k

When towing under accelleration at about 60-62 MPH the truck begins to shake and will stop if I ease out of the throttle. transmission fluid was changed at 100k with Amsoil synthetic ATF. Is this something to be concerned about or do I need the bands adjusted?

mine did samething at 98k trans was toast now it has a DTT and i love it, thanks greg and great lakes diesel works and the people at DTT. :)

One other thing to consider before you go out and get a new transmission.

My gooseneck shakes pretty bad from 62-70mph. Below 62 it tows smooth, above 70 it tows smooth. It will shake the truck like crazy between 62 and 70. The culprit... crappy trailer tires that i can't get balanced (and i think one of them is slightly out of round. )

It could be that it yours shakes at those speeds, and pretty much as soon as you let out of it, your below 60mph??? Doesn't take long to slow from 62 to below 60 when towing. I don't know, just a thought.

If it is your transmission... I'm happy as can be with my DTT and would definitely recomend them.

FD5,

I have 2 gas Rams and 1 Cummins, I tow trailers all summer long and know when something is'nt right with the truck or the trailer. Last week I installed an EDGE comp and found I now have lots more towing torque. Yesterday I was comming back from Toledo and climbing a hill with a 20ft. enclosed trailer and nothing in there except a 700 lb. motocycle when I felt the shudder you mentioned, I had the box set on 3 and was going about 60 at the bottom of the hill, I had just passed a semi and wanted to accelerate back up to 70 or so, guess I shouldn't have tried to accelerate up the hill, just maintain speed up and accelerate down. Anyways, I could tell right away it was a torgue converter that just wasn't up to the task... . getting a DTT installed in 10 days. . can't wait. I also notice I can't accelerate as hard as I want to in 1st or 2nd gear because my engine over rev's out of the torque band (1400 - 2000 rpm). Once I hit third gear and overdrive I can floor it and it won't over rev... ... that my friend is a slipping torque converter.

Find someone in your area that has one of those transmissions and take it for a drive, he'll let you, and you'll be amazed. Even a stock engine will feel like a million bucks, ie: all the power getting to the pavement.

For now you'll just have to baby it like I do mine. Good luck.

Hi guys, reading this forum made me think of this since I haven't towed much lately, but my truck does this to, except it is a six speed. 01 HO with Edge EZ, 100hp injectors, southbend clutch. It is in that mph range, 6th gear, if I let off a little or give it a lot of fuel it will stop. Anyone else had this problem?

The trailer is almost new and tires are same, so I don't think they would be causing it. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Well, I have 4:10's and a DTT 89H torque converter and complete DTT transmission. I notice a stutter like feeling when pulling hard in OD with 11K 5er. At first service we put Amsoil ATF in the transmission. Have not tow again yet. I am thinking maybe it is a drive line/U joint/Pinion Angle issue, seeing as both auto and 6 speed trucks seem to have the issue. Feels like you got on a ruff road surface, and truck has very fast cycling bucking. I have a STD Cab, so the drive line is one piece. SNOKING

Yeah, if the 6 speeds are doing it too, maybe that much torque is causing something to flex, I have 56k on the odometer and don't think I should be having a u-joint problem, how bout high speed wheel hop? Not hopping off the ground, just loading and unloading under high torque situations? Will the axle housing try and rotate at that speed? Maybe after I get my DTT, I'll pull that same hill and see what I get. Been thinking about some traction bars anyways (I get wheel hop when I try to push big snow). I'm sure I'm getting some axle rotation off the line with a big trailer too. Good luck! Feel free to tell me if I'm way off the mark here, gentlemen.
