My 97 Ram Club Cab Longbed 2500 (56K miles) oscillates up and down as I slow at stop lights ("yo-yo" motion alternates in front/rear). It almost feels like the brakes are not grabbing consistantly and smoothly, but they were checked by the dealer and are fine. My next step is to replace the shocks. Any suggestions for shocks? Any other ideas to solve this problem? Thanks!!

Dan,

I'm really happy with my Rancho 9000 shocks. I think you'll be happy with 'em too. #ad

I like my 9000s too, Bilsteins should be good as well.

Gathering from the posts, most owners are running Rancho's. I like my Bilsteins. 25k on them so far, still firm, no leaks.

Search the archives for shock replacement info. First time around is always a learning curve if doing it yourself.

I just installed some Edelbrocks on my 98 2500 today. Very happy with the results. gone is the oscilation I was getting at 42mph. No more washboard ride. Some feel they're too stiff but I don't think so at all. Haven't had them long enough to tell about the braking oscilation but mine had it before and I didn't feel it tonight. They were $77 each at Advance Auto Parts.

I just put on new shocks a week and a half ago. I debated the 9000's and the Bilstiens, however I am a poor student and couldn't justify the expense. I bought the Explorer ProComp shocks from Four Wheel Parts. I've beat the heck out of them on the Blazer for 4 years, I know lots of guys who run them, and they have a lifetime warrenty. They were on special, buy 3 get one free, and my total cost was just under $100, including a can of black spray paint (they come white). This does not include boots, but I don't run them. The truck rides a whole lot better than with the 80k mile original shocks. I'm sure the 9000's and Bilstiens are better shocks, but weren't worth it to me.

I have had a similar experience with the 4 wheel ABS cycling as the truck gets light hopping over some bumps prior to the stoplight.

The truck hits a bump then the brakes assume they are skidding so they release... so on and so forth.

Same here on the Rancho 9000's. Worth the money.

This thread is axle-hopping over to the 2nd gen ram forum (chassis only).

That's really the place for it.

Rancho, Edelbrock, Bilstine - any of them will be light years ahead of the stockers. I would also add that the shocks in combo with Roadmasters really tames the 3. 5 ton beast imo...
