and now won't start. I checked the codes with the Smarty and it said lift pump. I swaped out the pump along side the road and still nothing.

It is building pressure and turing over, but won't start.

Looking for ideas.

Thanks,

Doug

get a 3/4 wrench and crack #1 and #3 injector lines loose and see if you have fuel there when turning. may be just vapor locked from no fuel pressure. also hold to the floor when cranking.

Thanks a million

DC,

Thanks for the quick response. I had my wife take me down to the truck and we cracked the lines and turned it over a few times, tightend them back up again and presto. I think her smile was bigger than mine when it fired up.

Thanks again,

Doug

Not trying to rain on your good fortune. Same thing happened to me, system got air bound one night I was wailing on it and let off the go pedal @ high rpm quickly and she died wouldn't start and had it towed home. Next AM looked for codes there were none, cracked inj nuts cranked for a while, tightened nuts and bingo. Then just driving along about a month later it died, wouldn't start, towed home, read codes and there was the P1688 (M) Internal Fuel Injection Pump
Controller Failure
Internal problem within the fuel injection pump. Low
power, engine derated, or engine stops.

It was suggested to me shortly after the first tow home mentioned above to start shopping for a VP . . .

The first VP that died on my former '01 went out that very same way. But, mine never showed any codes.

Well, if it's gonna go I hope it goes soon. I am moving to Tx in Oct and will be driving the ALCAN Hwy down. I would hate for it to act up in the middle of nowhere. Maybe I should pick up a spare VP44 before I make the trip.

I don't really want to spend that kind of money for a spare, but the thought of paying a high repair bill in the middle of Canada.
