I have a 2002 2500 6spd with 120k on the clock. It has had a Bluechip IP and a new lift pump in Jan of 2012. It has 9psi at the IP. Has started to cut out and shows codes 1693, 1694, and 1698, on my reader, the tach is also acting up. The truck will buck three of four times then run like a champ. Sometimes it will shut off, but start rite back up when I hit the key. I have cleaned the electrical conections on the Bluechip, the engine computer and the truck computer, to no avail. Could the Injector pump be going out again? Or am I missing something.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the fuel injection pump.

Those DTC’s seem to point to one of the following:

1. Power is being interrupted to either the ECM or PCM.

2. A malfunctioning (possibly failing) ECM or PCM.

3. A loose or shorted connection in the communication system between the ECM and PCM.

This is going to be a tough one to nail down until it starts happening often enough to be able to troubleshoot while occurring.

I'd recommend disconnecting, carefully cleaning with a solvent (contact cleaner), and reconnecting the 50 pin ECM connector and the 3 PCM connectors. Also watch for loose or shorted wires in the engine harness.

Where are you located?

Best regards,

John L.

Check flex points in the wiring harness to see if a wire has fatigued and the copper is broken inside. Otherwise, the ecm may be bad.

Hate to say it but it is a good chance it is the ECM. Had roughly the same problem with hard starts, occasional no start, and TC lock\unlock problems. ECM, LP, and IP later and a lot of things got better plus the recurring problems disappeared.

Could the codes have already been there before you replaced ip and lp?

I think with the tach not working it's

Your crank position sensor or cam position sensor. ( don't know if you have both or one for 02. )

I can clear the codes, but asoon as it starts to buck it will throw the codes again.

just an odd thought have you checked the cam/crank sensor(s). when my 01 sensor went bad I got several different codes 1698 was one of them. After changing sensor no more codes.
