the batterys are fine the starter will not do enything when you turn the key all the way

it seems like it's in the switch

if you keep trying it it will start

my try some tuner cleaner

does it need a new switch:eek:

It does sound like something electrical, such as ignition or starter as Landry said. Lot of possibilities. Have you checked for codes?

no codes we don't hear a click but if you play with the switch

like turn it on and off real quick it will turn it over

I would think if it as the starter the lights in the cab would go dim as i turn the key all the way

the truck has sat up for 3 or 4 weeks as we are driving my wife explorer

if the switch has some dirty contacks can this be cleaned

Mine did this for awhile then would not start at all. For me it turned out the security feature to disable start where you have to push the door unlock Via the key fob was it. Basically there is a black box wired in series between ignition switch and clutch switch I bypassed and it has been starting every since. Just a thought?

VH,

Do you hear a "click" down at the starter when you turn the key? If yes, then it's likely the starter solinoid contacts are worn and/or corroded and in need of replacement. New one's can be ordered here:

Larry B's Starter Problems Solved Here

Regards,

I'm having the same problem. I ordered Larry B's contacts before I saw this post, as kind of "I'll see if it works"

Anyone know roughly how long it takes someone to install one of the contact kits?

well it took about 4 hours to do the starter contacts. I'm thick, so first I have to find what the kids did with my floor jack and jack stands. Then I fiddled with the battery terminals. Then I got under the truck, and found the wires to take off, and went back and forth to the garage several times to find a wrench 8mm, 10mm & 15mm. all told not a bad job, could have been quicker with out the hunt for the tools. :)

Glad my kids grown; now if I cannot find my tools I have no one to blame though!!!!

Grown, as in they no longer say, "my dad has the ultimate set of tools, we can fix anything"? I find my house is just where they come to fix autos and do laundry. "Hey dad where is your ______" and I say "look where you last had it":-laf
