i have a 2003 dodge 3500 quad cab six speed. Just replaced the lift pump tuesday and fuel filter today. Truck will start blowing white smoke backfiring and will not revv up like normal. These are the codes.

P0517

P0838

P0113

P0483

P0628

P2266

P0837

P0480

P0839

Any help is greatly appreciated. When it backfires it blows one hell of a flame out the rear end. I really have no idea what is going on. once it surges you can push the clutch in revv it up and sometimes it will revv and sometimes it will not thanks

P0517 is battery temp sensor voltage too high.

P0838 doesn't exist.

P0113 is IAT sensor voltage too high.

P0483 is fan speed mismatch.

P0628 is low voltage at the fuel lift pump.

P2266 is WIF sensor voltage too low.

P0837 doesn't exist.

P0480 is fan clutch signal mismatch.

P0839 doesn't exist.

That is one ugly mess of codes from all over the engine compartment. It sounds to me like a fried ECM. When you say you replaced the LP, what did you replace it with? When did these symptoms begin - after the LP replacement or after the filter replacement?

P0837= 4WD switch performance/ rationality P0838= 4WD switch circuit low p0839= 4WD switch circuit high great member sag2 posted the whole list of 2003 trouble codes, can't figure out how to link to it, but do a search, that what I did, and printed them out so I have an idea whats going on when strange " stuff" happens !

replaced the one on the filter bowl with the tank conversion kit DC says they no longer make the lift pump for the filter bowl so that is all they sell now. going to erase codes in the morning and run truck again and see what codes are set then. Just replaced fan clutch so that may be part of the problem. Just bought this truck a week ago and nothing but problems have happened to it

had a friend of mine erase codes with his scanner and the only two that remain are the 0517 battery temp and the 0838? This thing still does the exact same thing could it possibly be the turbo or injectors? It only does it when to the point where the turbo should kick in so that is making me lean towards the turbo. Guess i will take it to dealership monday and let them take a look

maybe. It looks like it has been in a minor accident maybe hit a deer or something. Looks like it was a business truck at one time because it had a flatbed at one time. I got it for a good price knowing it needed a little work so i can not really blame the guy i bought it from but am really stumped on this one

Noooooooo, not the ***aler!!!!!!

Turbinesurgun,

I noticed that you are from Gulfport. Could that be as in Mississippi?

If so, is there any chance that truck could have been submerged, for awhile, by Hurricane Katrina?

I've heard that prospective buyers should be on the "lookout" for used vehicles that were impacted by Katrina.

The salt-water could have hurt the trucks computer & other components.

I hope that's not your case but, thought I'd ask.

yes i work in gulfport and bought the truck from a friend of mine who put probably forty thousand trouble free miles on it. I guess i just have really crappy luck so i do not think it has been submerged. I know he has not had any chips or anything on it but i still think it is either turbo or injectors because no codes are returning

Check all of your ground wires! It sounds like something is loose, cracked, or broken. Make sure the there is no paint or oxidation between the ring connector and where it is bolted down.

my driver picked up truck today from dealer and the air filter was faulty. not dirty but sucked up in intake hose. I have never heard of this but i guess it was just a cheap filter. I checked it when i bought it less than 1 week ago and it looked brand new, the guy i bought it from said he just had it replaced and filterminder said it was dirty but i remembered the faulty filterminder on my other 03 and thought nothing of it but i sure am glad thats all it was.
