Best part of all is I started it like a gasser. Didn't wait for a heater grid cycle at all. Turned over fast, started and ran smooth although gave a pretty good puff out the tail pipe for about a minute...

It's starting to get a little colder here over the last few days. I think that it is going to be down around 5 or so tonight. I'll be using the block heater tonight for sure. I found that the truck will certainly start at these temperatures without the block heater, but it just seems to be a little easier on the truck and me (faster cab heat). Now today at work, it took a little longer for the grid heater to cycle... . but it fired right up. I would think that in most cases, as long as you wait for the "wait to start" light to go out, you should be ok.

I understand completely. It is that piece of mind knowing that if these conditions were to occur out of your control, the truck would still do what you ask of it. :)

The wife stole my cord for her stock tank heater and I started mine at -10*F yesterday morning. It had sat for about 14 hours when I started it. I let the grid do it's thing and it fired right up. It did crank real slow, but only a turn or two, and once started it ran like it was 40* out. Same morning dad's 01 Powersmoke needed four glowplug cycles and barely started. When he got to the shop his 94 Dodge work truck fired up after two cycles and no heat, and it has 250,000 more miles than the Ford. The Ford's start hard where they have to build oil PSI to fire the injectors.

Last winter we had a cold spell that lasted about 3 weeks averageing -25 to -40. I plugged her in at home but there's no plug in at work. I boosted 4 or 5 gassers and never had a single problem starting my CTD. I run 0w-40 full synthetic rotella T in the winter. These things start great on just one cycle of the grid heaters. Couldn't be happier. :) :) :) :) :)
