truck has started missing at idle HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 2001 that i have had for three months started to miss the other day at idle but runs fine down the road with no lose of power. It has 120,000 on it and is stock with a straight pipe and a 5 speed. there is no codes so for and the lift presure is 12@ idle and 8@ wot. it does not do it when its cold but after a mile or two it starts. when i first got it it blew black smoke on taking off but it seems to be a lot less know. i changed all of the filters and fluids 6000 miles ago. so what the heck could it be. i have been told cam sensor, injectors, i pump, and a lot of other stuff. i need some help bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been experiencing the same miss at idle, but only if the engine is warmed up, and then it only seems to do it in hot weather or just after a good hard pull, when everything is alot warmer. The valve adjustment makes sense to me, I just haven't gotten around to doing mine yet.

My 2000 would miss at idle when cold. Adjusted the valves and all is good again

Missing when hot? I have to say I don't know what would be causing that unless it was a injection pump electrical failure. Maybe I'm way off though.

I could be way off but, one of the injector nozzels could be restricted and cause an idle hickup. Do you run any additives? Is the filter clean? Might try an additive that lubricates as it cleans, if there is such a monster. Don't use one myself except in the winter so can't suggest one. keep checking your post others will have more feedback before long.

Mine has done that for a long while. It has done it through 2 sets of injectors. I am going to try the valve adjustment next. Mine is only when warmed up also.

truck mis at idle

All these engines mis at idle sounds like a designed bad electrical joint some where maybe in the PDC. The J-one and two. ???????? :-{}

here i go again. i set the cruise control and the motor started to cut out. took CC off and it runs fine. so it make me think its a sensor

May have alread tried this but, check the IAT sensor - remove and clean with carb or other spray (evaporating) cleaner and re-install. If you run an E-brake it will get dirty sooner. I've replaced mine at one time just because it was only $30 and my original was reading low ohms - forget what it's supposed to be? Do a search on IAT - will tell everything you need to know. MHO

My dad has an 01 5spd that has the same problem. At idle when warm it has a random idle. No noticable loss of power and no miss at any other rpm other than idle. Truck has new lift pump and vp44 in the last 3000 miles.

You might try posting this in the 3rd gen forum. Your 2004 engine is quite a bit different than these 2nd gen engines.

Is it possible..............

that you could have gotten a bad batch of fuel? Cheapest thing to do first is to replace the fuel filter again. Just a thought.

Seems to be a quirk of the VP. Not necesarily death, but ive herd ALOT of 24v's with the random miss, mine included. Done it ever since the vp replacement back in '01. Your open exhaust makes it alot more noticeable (again, mine too ;) ). I wouldnt sweat it. I herd a 24v the other day with lots of fuel system work, heavy mods, the exhaust sounded like a 12v with a stuck injector, but holy cow did that change when he hit the throttle!!!!

Engine miss at idle when hot.

I have the same problem. My bought my 99 3500 4x4 with 50,000 miles, now it has 120,000. It has had this miss since I bought it.

I have, course changed all of the filters, replaced crank, IAT, and map sensors, adjusted valves, and cleaned everything I can find. No difference. I gave up, except I keep reading posts on this forum hoping that someone will come up with some thing.

By the way I am a newbie, except that I don't feel like one. I have been a regular for several years, shamefully, I finally have decided to join.

Welcome to TDR! (oficcialy)

My VP was replaced in '01, at about 65 or 70 Kmiles. Have had the miss ever since. Was fairly intermitent at first, but is now constant when the engine is warmed up and pretty well seems random, although the last few thousand miles its beginning to be a bit more rythmatic, like one cyl. is missing more than others. Could be all in my head though.....
