This ****** S**ks..... 25k miles, owned 2 years... . either way i'll end up getting screwed... . get it back crappy (like my last one stolen in San Diego)or get "Fair Market Value" for it ($5-10k)

I am at a hotel in Phoenix on business, took it right out of the parking lot between 8 and 10... . glad I put the $1200 stereo in it last week! Well at least they didnt get the smarty I was waiting in line to buy! :).

I feel for anyone that's gone though this... . I've had 3 cars in my life, all were trucks, 2 have been stolen (both Dodges 96 and 05)... and in nice areas, not ghettoville.

Ok, done with the whinning... . the glass is half full: Maybe I can get the 6. 7l with 6spd auto as a replacement if it's here soon enough and I dont take a bath with the insurance company.

That really sucks... I'll be going to school there is Phoenix next year, and god I hope they don't get mine. "check out R/R's" You bet if I hear those stacks breath life without me or my wife doin it, my Dakota Colt 45 will shortly be following. I'll buy new tires, cheaper than a new truck... I had my last truck stolen from me in San Diego near 32nd street Naval Base... The worst part was I had gotten there just in time to watch it drive off... I called the police and the kept switching me from the SD police department to National City PD, saying that they couldn't #@$%! do anything for me. #@$%! I was SOOOO POed! It still PMOFF! #@$%!

Fight them (the insurance company) to the bitter end for every dime you think it's worth. They will be praying on your weakness at this point and know you need a vehicle quick so they will low ball you. If you have insurance that covers rental vehicle during an accident use it, mention to the adjuster/Customer Service Rep you are dealing with that you are in no hurry to get cashed out and plan on getting every dime of you truck's worth so you can replace it. They work for you, you pay the premiums which pay their salary. Don't take any crap, make sure you keep good notes when you call/whenever you talk to someone. Make sure they understand you mean business and are taking notes by asking them "how do you spell your last name" and "what is your title", then follow with "could you tell me today's date", then just comment slowly "time . . . is . . . 10:23 am". Send copys of receipts for everything you can find that you installed: $1200 stereo, aftermarket wheels, linex installation, everything. If you don't have a receipt call the company you ordered from and they should have a copy on file or understand your predicament and help you out by sending you one for what you bought from them.

I know this works (at least w/State Farm) in 96 I lost a truck to a flood right in front of my home. When I reported it flooded the first thing (after being transferred to the "correct" Loss Specialist - their title for person trained to provide you with the least amount of $$$) I was asked was to verify my account number and address so they could pick the vehicle up and were sure they had the correct address to send the check to. After I asked his name, title, etc. I told him they wouldn't be allowed to remove the vehicle until I had a check, for what I felt was an appropriate value. The Loss Specialist mumbled "oh one of these guys", I ripped right in to him and then demanded to speak with his supervisor. Put me on hold and after 3 minutes I hung up and called State Farm Corporate and asked for the regional rep from my area. Gave this person all information on the Loss Specialist I was dealing with and requested someone else that was better suited to dealing with persons experiencing the truma of a loss. Long story - short I got $1,200. 00 more than I the value which was $32oo. 00 more than I owed and . . . it was a 6 year old vehicle that I had just bought 8 months prior. It took many conversations with the new rep and 3 weeks of looking at the truck in front of my house.

Just remember you get more with honey than with vinegar. Good luck to you.

Man this socks! I wish we could get away with rigging 480v to our trucks that would fry any slimeball that gets in the seat without proper entry.

My grandfather did that with a garbage can that the local dogs were getting into at night, just 120v though, and he forgot about it the morning the garbage man came by and got him too. :-laf

Stolen Trucks

Thanks guys I needed the Chuckle about the trash can. I kinda like Mel Gibsons method in Road Warrior (blows up when stolen) musta been something the thief done). I have a battery kill switch under the hood right where the power comes off before it goes in to the loom with a removable key (about $15). After reading these posts I am thinking of installing a switch on the fuel solenoid. R C

I do not know what to tell you guy's other than this place has gone to H**L with stolen Vehicles. They do not even bother hot wiring, braking windows etc. They just put a hook on it and drag it far enough away to remove the driveshaft or drag it onto a car carrier. The only way your going to keep a vehicle around here is put it in the garage or sleep in it. I would highly recommend a Lo-Jack system with the pager that notifies you that your vehicle is being moved. I think it runs between 5 to 7 hundred dollars. Two guys I know both had their vehicles stolen from an apartment complex and they could see the skid marks in the pavement leaving the complex. They were recovered several months later when found in a barn near Tucson. Apparently they were used for running Illegal aliens across the border.

Hey Im sorry to hear about your truck man. That really sucks! Im beginning to think you guys need to move to Iowa where its safe. I leave the keys in everything I own including my Corvette and my 40,000 dollar tractor and I leave for days at a time without concern. In fact last weekend I went to northern MN and when I came home someone had thrown a party in my front yard and left about 3 cases of empty beer cans in the bed of my 97 and even with all the tire marks in my grass there wasnt even one burn out mark. Did I mention that my house was also unlocked with no alarm and everything was just like I left it? Maybe they give a little more respect because I have a sticker on my front door that says property protected by Smith & Wesson? Best of luck out there!

Giachino, did your truck have the skim key?

Yep, the black slim key. Assuming that one doesnt have a chip in it..... are Dodge's more suceptable to theft because they dont have the electronic key?

I'm sorry for your loss Gaichino. i experienced this same loss just recently and can imagine how p!ssed you are. it really sucks not knowing who to kill for revenge too.

if its affected you like it did me you're probably feeling pretty angry at the whole d@mn world and a bit helpless right now. the only thing keeping me sane about it is that i have a couple close folks around me dealing with much worse issues that make the loss of a vehicle seem kinda trivial and one good friend that's kindly leant me a car indefinately. still sucks pretty bad though... ... again, sorry to hear it dude.

take care, j

In the grand scheme of thing's, a vehicle's just a material item, and there are much worse things to deal with... . at least my family wasn't in it during a big accident or something similar.

It just pisses me off, I've worked since I was 15 and have earned every single thing i have without borrowing, lying, cheating, stealing... . this truck was a lot of money, and I chose to get it in lieu other important things. I've only had 3 cars (all trucks $5 Piece of Junk, Dodge 96 1500, 05 Ram) in my life, and this was by far my favorite, love this site, and pretty much was jazzed on the whole diesel thing... . was saving for a DTT TC/VB + Smarty + 35" tires (it was going slowly but I was getting there)... . and wanted to have a bad *** truck... .

If i take a 5-10k loss on the "fair market value" becasue it was only a 1. 4 years old, i'm screwed. I could buy another one, but shouldn't buy another one, put the 2k worth of stuff i had put in mine + continue with the plan for the dtt and smarty..... it just wouldnt be responsible of me... . this truck was supposed to last me 10 years..... unfortunately it was my "fun" project for the decade... . we've taken in a family (Mother and 3yr old Daughter), and I have my girls college to save for... . I just can / wont justify changing that focus for a "material item"... no matter how much it breaks my heart.....

Thanks for the support guys, and let me recommend that you all (except those in Iowa) get an alarm and/or lowjack and/or Gap Insurance and/ or the club to protect your hard earned investment.....

Hey guys, Farm Bureau Insurance here in SC wants to know everything extra that has been put on/added to a vehicle and then premium is adjusted accordingly. If extras aren't reported (and premium paid on additional value), then one only recieves value for a "naked" vehicle. Judging by comments made, is this not true everywhere? mark31

Truck Stolen

Sorry to here of the loss

The sad part of this thing is that no matter how you protect it, if they wont it, they will fine away to take it

Man,

I feel your pain! Was in Houston last week for sales meeting and some b****rd tries to break in to my new '06 on Thursday night May 29th. :{ Screws up the driver side back window trim and then screws up the driver's door handle and lock. He punched the lock out but it bent back in to the lock mechanism so it would not raise easily and could not get in. The real pisser is that there was nothing in there visible to steal other than a pair of safety glasses. It has the Sentry key so he wasn't going to be able to start it and steal it. STUPID *SS. I had pulled everything else out and put in my hotel room and I have not yet put in my bed toolbox. I have had my new truck for three weeks and have not even made a payment on it yet and have to have $750 in repairs done to fix it. I am also out shopping for an alarm system for this truck. Luckily I still have my '02 to drive while the '06 is in the shop.

Hope your insurance company does you right.

I had almost gotten over how much this p*ss*d me off until I read this thread and now I am all p*ss*d off again for you and me both.

Good Luck,

James

I have a device that fits over the brake pedal and has a pick proof lock. I saw it on TV in about 1999 and have since seen them in stores with automotive things. Then there are those pieces of metal that install inside your door so that a screw driver when forced in under the door handle won't be able to touch the rod that unlocks the door. The old saying a lock is not to keep a thief out, just to keep honest people honest. As long as we need locks something is wrong with the way people are raised. Anything we can do to make it harder for a thief is good if it makes them give up and seek something easier.

where can one find those or a pattern to make and position them correctly?

It is called jimmi jammer. Their web site can be reached by goggle, type in jimmi jammer or http://trucktechniques.com/jimmijammer.html. The pics show you how it works. I found that I had to file a little off in the half round cut out thats around the tumbler on the left side but the right one fell in place. I found the directions good. You may need a couple of hours to do the job. Nothing complicated just plain old common sense. I would gladly pay a body shop to fix the attempted theft damage than fight with the insurance co. after the truck is gone. Sometimes after they are recovered there is lots of things to be fixed here and there. Hard to convince an insurance co. the here and there was not there before the theft. I let you be the Judge of how well jimmy jammers might work. Regards, Jim E- mail -- email address removed --
